Engine problems

Hey All,

Recently purchased a 2008 Silverado LTZ Max...LOVED the truck. The thing is sweet.. That was until my oil pressure light came on. Replaced the oil pressure sensor but pressure would drop again. Took it in and they told me the screen was plugged and the manifold was gummed up...$1000 later I get the truck. Drove off the lot to a pop and bang..took it back and found out a cylinder was missing. More hunting and found the cam lobe was done. 4k for a rebuild or 5k for a new GM engine. I went the new engine route.

Engine ordered, week later arrived, couple days later I heard back from the dealer the new engine is making a 'noise'. The strip it down and ship it out to get checked. Everything seemed okay but once it was run again the noise came back. Engine # 2 ordered.

Engine #2 arrives a week later. Installed and ooops. Dealer calls me. Engine is making a 'noise'. I laughed. Engine was torn down and compared to my old engine, GM rep arrives to check things out. Turns out that GM installed the wrong pistons in the new engines! WHA? I laughed

Engine #3 on the way.

BUT

My dealer told me that GM had sent out 17 engines to customers and had two more in stock with the wrong pistons. SO. If you've had a new engine installed from GM (6.0L) you might want to see if you got a bum motor. The 'noise' only happens in 2nd gear at about 60km (40ish mph). They told me it sounds like a baffle. In drive it doesnt make the sound?

Allen, which dealer in Mississauga do you go to for the work...

I live in Oakville, right next door.

Wow, look at all the locals (and ex locals govtech).

I had 225,000 km (thats about 140,000 miles I think).

Its a drag because the truck had been running excellent! I've been reading more and more issues believed to be caused by the AFM. I'm seriously thinking about getting it disabled.

Scooby,

I've taken it to Applewood Chevy (Dundas & Winston Churchill area). Service guy there has been really good. Dealer gave me a good deal on the motor too. GM on the other hand is in my bad books. I'm pretty pissed off with them about the whole situation. Not a lot of confidence in their product right now.

I'm going to ask the service rep if theres an identifier on the engine to tell if its one of the bad ones..If I find anything out I'll post.

New engine is in. After only two months I got her back. Driving like an old lady but I'm sure that will change. Once its broken in a bit, I think i'll be picking up the unit that disables the AFM. Even though i have the warranty I don't want this one getting wrecked.

Oh.For all the troubles GM gave me a gas card..argh.

Did you have the 6.0L? If so, don't believe they came with AFM.
