going from 17s to 18s or 20s with the max trailer package

Just me flappin' my opinion here...but I'd push for 20s on the max pack. 3.73s give plenty of zip around town, and 6th gear lockup will get you 74 mph @ 2000 rpm even.

I have a non NHT 6.2 with the 3:42's and a close friend just bought a near identical truck (ext cab short box) with the NHT package. He towed my loaded sled trailer one weekend and I towed it the next, swapping drivers and driving on the exact same roads. Both of us agreed that the ONLY noticeable difference was that his truck consistently got .5 - 1 mpg less and that was it. Glad I ordered another non NHT 6.2 instead of an NHT package truck.

I would rather have the NHT Package, but just for the other benefits not so much the gearing. I would be happy with either gear setup.

Only difference from my truck to an NHT is smaller wheels, slightly heavier rated leaf springs and 3.73 ratio axle gearing. And the leaf springs can't be much stiffer as my buddies truck sags just as much as mine with the same tongue weight. The NHT package IS however cheaper than getting the 6.2 and Z71 appearance package.

I thought the rear end was bigger too? Or is the rear end bigger in all of the 6.2 trucks in general?

All 6.2 trucks have the bigger 9.5" rear-axle,along with the rear disc brakes.

NHT trucks also have specific cooling fan motors.

Oh ok. I knew about the disc brakes, but I forgot about that part. I could take them or leave them, I can't notice any braking difference between the drums or the discs. I didn't know about the cooling fan motors though.

Bringing up an old topic because it has the information I want. Just curious it was mentioned that sticking to a OEM size should be good. If I move from the factory 17" rims and tires from my 6.2 NHT to aftermarket 18" with LT275/65R18 with load range E, will I run into any issues? I don't want to lose to much MPG or less load capacity.

That's the size I run on mine with no issues at all. Lost about 1/2mpg is all according to DIC. LT tires feel more stable when towing also.

Great! Thanks :) I ran 33" with 18" wheels in my last silverado with the 5.3 and 4 speed. It was a terrible combination even with the 3.73 rear end. Milleage was crap and the truck couldnt keep it steady at 60mph with wind. So I want to avoid this again lol with the 6.2 and 6 speed though it wont be an issue ;)

Regardless of what size wheels I run, I like to stick with GM factory and stay away from aftermarket; fewer problems and risks that way. Just my opinion, though.

I looked at the factory wheels but I only liked the 20'' GM multi spokes. They wanted double the price and I didn't want 20'' wheels for towing. SO unfortunately I went aftermarket again. I stuck with a factory offset of +30 though :)
