Hey everyone, im looking to buy a new silverado and can get a good deal one with a max trailer package. only problem is i hate the 17" rims they come with and asked to opt for 18s or 20s. dealer said there is too much involved with swapping them, ie computer programming and other related issues. and after its all done it still could present some issues down the road. says because of the 373 gears and axle too. is this true or does he just not want to swap my rims?

You'll be fine,as long as you stay with the OE tire size for whatever wheel you go with,IE-18" = P265/65R18 or 20" = P275/55R20

They just don't want to swap. My truck package came with 17's. I put oem 20" wheels and tires on the same day I bought it. No reprogramming or any issues.

I see tons of NHT trucks with factory 18's and 20's installed on them before they leave the dealer. If your dealer don't want to do it, I'd find a new dealer.

Exactly, if they wont do it, another one will.

A local dealer here last year offered to swap out the 17" LT wheels for the 18" aluminum wheels that were take offs for a upfit.

I think he said $400 would get them swapped out & on the truck.

I agree ^^^^.

Yep, I agree with the others.....it's an easy swap that won't be a problem at all, as long as you re-program the TPMS sensors that come with the new wheels (takes about 5 mins). Sounds like the dealer doesn't want your business that bad.

Also, just keep in mind... I don't know what it is, but there is a reason that the NHTs have the 17" wheel & tire combo. My guess is that the 20" tire doesn't have as much weight-carrying capacity, but that is just a guess. I also dislike the 17" Chevy wheels, but put the 17" GMC wheels on mine... I had the 18" OEM Z-71 wheels, and just wanted something different. Good luck finding what you want, it should be a buyer's market, particularly the closer we get to the 2014s coming out!!!

It is a weight rating thing; GM is pushing towing capacity, not the fact that NHT is a thinly disguised ass-kicking performance package. The weight rating of the 20s is only about 100 lbs less per tire than the 17s; nothing to worry about in non-tow or most tow situations.

I swapped the 17's on my 2010 NHT to a set of the 18's off a Z71. The only thing I had to do was recalibarte the tire pressor sensors. The wheels are basically the same overall size, I could not see any difference in the speedometer or the tachometer at any given speed. I was checking with my GPS before and after the swap.

You lose 400 lbs in capacity. Depending on what you haul or tow it may not be a big deal

I swapped mine with the 18" Z71 Wheels, but went with the next size taller tire. I just had my local garage swap the TPMS over from the 17's to the 18's.

ok so now i know i can get the 20s if i want. BUT.. i found another truck thats pretty much a twin to what i am looking at, and it has the 20s and 6.2 just not the max pack with the 373s. so do i settle for 342s or try to get the dealer to throw 20s on the max truck? i dont really need the max pack for towing but always liked 373s.
