2005 5.3 4WD Tranny Noise

At idle I can hear noise coming from underneath the truck and it appears to be coming from the tranny. The noise is tough to explain but it's not a clanking or grinding type noise at all. It's just not quiet. My buddy that's a damn good mechanic said that's just how Chevy trannys sound and some are noisier than others. As long as it shifts and drives fine I probably have nothing to worry about. It's got 100k miles and it's been serviced at the typical intervals. No metal on the magnet in the pan. It's been taken care of and never really towed that much with it. Anyone else experiencing this?

I guess if I had to describe it it's almost like a loaping type noise.

Just sitting there in park. It's hard to describe other than I can hear it and it's kind of like it loaps. It's odd. I can't say it's the tranny for certain but like I said before my buddy that is mechanic is certain it is. It's definitely coming from underneath the truck and to me it does sound like it's coming from the tranny. Maybe they all sound that way and I'm just not used to it but I've had the truck since it was new. I'm very in tune with anything new that goes on with my vehicels.

Possibly an exhaust leak. My trans doesn't make any noticeable sound just sitting and idling. However, the engine is progressively getting noiser in it's "old age". I have a busted manifold bolt and now it's starting to sound like the infamous "piston slap" when cold started in the mornings.

Idle in park. You can hear the sound coming from underneath the truck right in the area of the tranny. Not in the cab.

Update to this our shop mechanic that services our trucks and equipment said it's the transfer case chain/gears that is making the noise most likely. Has anyone else experienced this?
