Fluid exchange on the Camaro

Well at 2k miles I decided to change out the transmission and rear differential fluid over to AMSOIL in the Camaro. So up on the lift it went. Transmission took 4 qts of AMSOIL's Torque Drive fluid and the rear diff took 3.3 oz of Slip Lock and one qt of 75w-90 Severe Gear fluid. The lift made it an easy job.

Thanks to Rich, AKA MS3DALE for the suggestion of leaving the transmission fill plug in but loose so that the fluid wouldn't shoot out of the drain plug. Good tip.

The rear diff fluid was a greyish color and smelled like normal GM grape fluid. Once I got it down I took it out and did about 8 figure 8's in our church parking lot. I did notice that the transmission now runs cooler. It use to get up to 180 degrees but now runs two needle thicknesses below 180.

The 2x4's amd 2x6's were needed to get the car up high enough to clear the lift. Never had that issue before other than on the neighbors lowered Nissan Maxima.

Here is a picture of a sticker under the hood of one of the Camaro's at the gathering in Cary NC this past weekend.

Ryan,

I have to drive an hour in any direction to get anywhere so the mileage adds up. Although that is more than what I put on the impala in a year.

I need to take mine out more. Spring has been way to wet here :(

You coming up to C5 Fest in August?

No offense, but something about that lift and the position of the car on it just scares the living shit out of me, especially when I think about being under it all.

Hmmm. 91' Turbo Jetta? Vegetable oil powered?

Yep, I run waste veggy oil in it during the summer months, about a 50/50 mix of it and diesel. It is great running partly for free.

No, my main job as a produce broker takes up my summer months. From May until Nov we are full time 7 days a week. Kind of stinks but it pays well.

You would be surprised at how sturdy it is. It is pretty solid on there really.

I have a co-worker who has been running vegetable oil in a string of vehicles. His oldest is about worn out so he recently (wow, 6+ months ago already sheesh) bought a 91' Jetta and has converted it. I somewhat assisted by lending him my OBDII reading stuff. He is got everything fixed and running great. I think he starts on diesel then switches over to 100% vegee oil, at least he does on his old truck.

Where did you get that lift that's awesome. Does it have safety pins the lock it up or does it rely on the cylinder

I got the lift from here back in 2009. It does have a lock on it that you catch so it will not come back down. You have to raise it back up off the lock before you can release it to lower it. Really safe.
