Why is F150 Best Seller?

Always hear that the F-150 is the #1 selling truck in America. I find that hard to believe. Then it dawned on me....yeah...Ford probably outsells Chevrolet, and Ford probably outsells GMC.

BUT

When you combine Chevy's numbers and GMC's numbers and say...GM I'll bet that Ford's numbers pale... Does anyone know for certain?

Don't have the cold hard numbers in front of me, but I am pretty sure I saw them, and if you include GMC and Chevy, GM was #1 by volume for '02.

And in fact, GM has been #1 in this respect for many of those years that Ford claims to be #1 - so really, it's just a technicality.

That's exactly right.the Silverado and Sierra are seperate truck lines and are therefor counted seperately in sales quanities.

When you look at manufacturer truck sales GM does outsell Ford.

I don't have the numbers, but I read last week that the F-150 is the best selling passenger vehicle in America -- that includes cars, trucks, SUVs. I'm a bit surprised that a pick-up is the best selling vehicle, but I guess if you count all of the fleet sales in that number, it makes sense.

All I know is I love my truck. Despite the rattles and other minor problems, I'd buy another GMC or Chevy anytime.

Ford sells a lot of trucks but I think the main reason they sell so many is because of price. The f150 is generally always cheaper to buy. For years to I think that fords leaseing program was the best but now GM and Dodge have caught up.

Most people will just buy the cheapest. Again I have taken heat for this before but it is a proven buy a bunch of reserch that people who buy fords are less brand loyal. The surveys show that people who buy fords will buy any make of anything as long as it is a good deal. TV's, blenders, underware.......I am sorry ford guys but this is a fact.

Why, cause they're cheap !!!

They're the biggest, cheapest piece of crap out there, you couldn't give me, well yeah you could, but I'd just turn around and sell it to some smuck, and use the money for a downpayment on a Chevy.

Over all truck sales yes, but not best selling vehicle.

I can't yet find the 2002 sales figures but

2001

Best selling Vehicle Ford F series pickup 876,716 sold

2nd Silverado with 645150 sold

Then Camery

Then Accord

and the GMC pickup did not make the top 10 with 210154 sold

That is a total of 865,304 totoal GM full size pickups sold. Still less than the F series. I still wouldn't own one, but they are the best selling vehicle.

I think it is price, I know thats true around here. A few weeks ago a ford dealership was having a sale and you could get a F150 4x4 5 speed for like $14,000. And with so many people around here needing a 4x4 I bet thay sold like crazy, you never see a 4x4 Silverado for $14,000. Mine Silverado is a base reg cab, auto, V8 and it was a good bit above $14,000 and thats counting the $2002 dollar rebate.

On a side note, I heard on my local news that Chevrolet is #1 in West Virginia, Cavalier tops everything in sales! And you can tell it, seems like every girl between the ages of 16 and 21 have a cavalier.

i believe it's the financing-----ford will do financing for just about anyone-----thus their numbers are ahead at times over everyone else

I'll agree with the others, most people who aren't diehard truck/vehicle people as we are, just buy what's cheap.

Not trying to get into an argument here but there were alot of Ford guys last year (2001) who blew off the fact that General Motors sold more trucks than Ford did for the first time in a few years.

I don't know if there is any info about it on this site but I know for a fact that it was on others.

edit-Here's a thread( very first post) on PUTC that not only shows this year's otal sales but also last year's sales as well.According to this guys figures (and he is a Toyota owner),not only did GM outsell Ford (total vehicles and trucks alone as well) in 2001 but also in 2002 and apparently were the only ones to increase truck sales in 2002 over the 2001 truck sales.

When you add the GMC to the full sized truck sales it was very close, and from what I've read the compact GM trucks beat the Ranger by enough to give GM the overall truck sales.
