A/C smells...

My a/c kinda smells and don't know like what...just stinks. It seems cold enough. Don't know if a re-charge will help. Also, sometimes the blower wont kick on.

On most vehicles its right in front by your wipers. On my car what I did was turn the A/C on, fan on high, and sprayed into the intake vents down by the wipers (both sides) and you could instantly smell the Frigi Fresh inside and the smell was gone. I resprayed about two years later to keep the system clean and fresh.

Make sure your AC's drain is open on the engine side of the firewall. If its plugged, the water (condensation) will get trapped and cause a musty smell.

I have used Lysol aerosol in the vents and fresh air intake before with good results too.

Any debris that makes it into the air intake ends up in the bottom of the air box and will potentially plug the drain...

another thing is that my selector only goes up to 4th speed when I put it on number 5 the blower shuts off

Ya hockeypro, you're right it's actually a recall on my truck I found out.

also I did the recharge which made it cold there and I also did the air freshener which which should have to freshen up the air but it still smells musty when its on recirculateand I went to the auto parts store and they said that there is no cabin filter for my truck so I don't know where the smell will be coming from

The smell can be caused by mildew in the system, that is why I used Frigi Fresh to kill the mildew. Heck, Lysol may do the same thing and shouldn't hurt anything.

And yes, GM stopped doing the in cabin air filters years ago (anything to save a buck at our expense). The plastics are still the same under the dash, minus the access door for the filters. Guys on the Duramax forum have used a dremel tool to cut open a door in install filters to keep the dust down in their cabs. GM also stopped putting vents in the center counsel that provided heat/cool to the rear passengers, again, obviously to save a buck at our expense.
