Bedlining nerf steps?

Hey all was looking at my nerf bars this morning and noticed there were some surface rust spots where the paint was flaking on my bars. I just installed them 3 months or so ago and they have a 3 year warranty but dealing with the manufacturer would be too much of a hassle so I figured I would take it into my own hands.

Now I put bed liner on my rocker panels before I installed the steps so I know its best to strip the paint beforehand. I have some aircraft remover laying around and figured that would take care of the paint already on the bars. Now, would I need to prime the bars or scuff them before applying the bed liner coating? Just don't want it peeling off like my rocker panels (need to be redone). Thanks

IDK for sure, but when my bed was Line-X'ed I believe they scuffed the paint before spraying. So I would think you need to scuff it. What are you planning to use? What do the directions say?

I'm gonna be using herculiner and it says to a cuff the paint before applying but I'm gonna be stripping it all the way down so I'm just wondering if a primer coat is needed or if I need to scuff the bare metal?

Pretty sure I would sand blast them

I'm not really sure what it would cost to get them sand blasted. I feel like aircraft remover will do the trick. I completely stripped down my calipers with it a couple weeks ago

The blasting not only cleans the paint but will roughen the metal so the paint has something to stick to. It may be worth a call around if you can't do it your self. A local place does whole car frames for like $100. I wouldn't think it would cost more then $20 $30 . I didn't see what brand steps they are but thats probbly why it chiped to start. A lot of places use a simple wash/acid wash to prep them for paint/powder. Its simply not as good as the sandblast

Alright that's good to know. Definitely worth the money if its gonna help it stick better. I have one place I can call about half an hour away. I think they may even powder coat too (only was gonna do bed liner if I did it myself, because I had some left over). And the bars are go rhino dominator 2's
