Time for new shocks

Recommended Posts

I was looking at getting new shocks soon and was wondering if anyone has upgraded to Bilstein or Rancho shocks. My truck is driven 100% on the road and 40% of the time is pulling an 8000 pound travel trailer. I would like a better ride especially when towing. Can you let me know if you went with one and how it rides and why you went with it.

Thanks Ian

I am in the same boat also, my 2007 needs shocks but unsure of what to put on, going to follow this thread to see what kind of response you get. I was leaning towards the Ranchro"s myself but having another option always helps.Cheers

Big James....I also read a RV forum and I asked the same question there and so many people are saying the Bilsteins are the way to go. Looks like mudflaps.com have them on sale.

I went with Bilsteins and am very happy with them. From off the dealer lot, the stock shocks were quite ineffectual, not providing nearly enough damping, so I changed over to the Bilsteins quite early. I haven't regretted it; they have made a significant difference in the ride.

GMMan1303 that all depends on how and what you drive on. In Ohio they say the stockers should be replaced at 50,000. I have taken cars to 100,000 miles and been fine. I think a 6,000 mile trip out west pulling my RV got the better of mine. I had to drive through 60 miles of a dirt road in WY where they were replacing a hwy and mine where not the same after that. I talked to Bilstien yesterday and they say that theirs are good for at least 100,000 miles. They have UPS trucks running on their 4600 series shock with over 300,000 miles on them.

Coincidentally, after I did a roughly 40 mile dirt road drive back in March my truck was never the same either (or so it seems).

She feels so much more loose now, and the vibrations were the straw that broke the camels back. Now she feels very loose on the highway and in most situations, but the suspension is just one of many things that need attention on my truck! I think it'll never end.

Have you thought about HD shocks with air bags? I

You will immediately notice the difference with using Biltein's. I got mine from 4wheelonline, and I love the ride quality of my rig now. No issues so far.
