I picked up a 2014 over <blank> because...

I was trying to figure this out myself. from what I gathered.. the cooled seats only come with the seats that also have the driver alert "shake" feature. You can't get driver alert seats with the All Terrain - I have no idea why. I also have no idea why they can't add the cooled seat feature to the seats that don't have driver alert.

Personally I don't want driver alert... but I wouldn't mind the cooled seats.

You can get heated and cooled seats without the alert package. But you can't get the alert package without the cooled seats. Thats on a LTZ or a SLT without all terrain package. I ordered mine with the alert package, may or may not save me from a wreck down the line. Can't add it later.

Hey guys, well I'm on the tail end of my truck shopping cluster-duck, and I finally got to drive a sharp 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE w/ the All Terrain package. I have to say I loved it, definitely top of my list, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost premium over a new Ram Big Horn. I'm going to be looking at an SLT model of the Sierra (w/o All Terrain), so the cost is a little closer to the Ram, but since the Ram is a 2013, I'm able to get a better deal on it. Just wondering from some of you fellas who took the plunge, what really put you over the top to get a 2014 Silverado/Sierra versus one of the others? (Ford, Ram, etc)?

Only get the Ram if it has the new 8-speed, the 65RFE 6-speed (that's actually a 5-speed) is a piece of crap, take my experience on that one. I had three of those trans on my last three trucks, and it was the only thing that gave me problems. If you don't believe me take a look at some Ram forums, it's hated by owners. Other than that, I liked my Ram's, and I think the 4th gen Ram is a better truck than the GMT-900's, but the K2XX is better than anything Ram has right now.

He won't be able to buy a 2013 chevy now that he drove the 2014... not a chance even though it's much cheaper.

You're damn right, he's already been spoiled.

I would be hesitant to buy a Ram just because the payload numbers would not be high enough for me. Otherwise it would be a very tough choice.

I still do not understand how Ram can not get their payload numbers up.

Good point, they have poor payloads because of the coil spring suspension. I will say though, I had my Ram bed loaded up over payload several times, and it did fine. Just had a bit of rear end squat to it. If you're towing though, the low payload wreaks havoc with tongue weights, and loading the truck up.

Been waiting for GM and Dodge to make a half-ton crew cab with a 6.5' bed. Both finally did (at the same time, I might add), and I went looking for what I wanted. Truth be known, if my ext cab was a 4-door instead of a 3-door, I may have held off a little longer. No regrets, though. Loving the new Silverado. If the dealer didn't have it when I got there, another dealer had a Sierra to my specs, also. Getting it for below invoice also helped speed things along.

All Terrain pkg is available on SLE and SLT models

Correct, except A/T Plus not available on SLE. See attached pic for features.

20's much nicer than 18's.

The tahoe and suburban use a coil spring suspension and have payloads of around 1700lbs so its just Ram that has this issue. I could never buy a pickup where if I took it on a hunting trip with a total of 4 guys and dog plus gear I am at max payload and not even able to hook up a atv or boat.

    • Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose
    • I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose
    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
