Anyone else see the news yet this morning?

My dad called and woke me up and told me to watch.  NASA lost communication w/ Space Shuttle Columbia and there is a video of it on re-entry where you can see several pieces of the shuttle (or whatever it is) coming in.

It depends on what News you watch,  Some are saying it exploded, others are saying it just broke apart. It'll take a couple days\months\years to figure out what exactly happened. But never the less, it's still a sad event.

Yea, im sitting here at work trying to find as much info on it as possible.  My boss got a call from a friend of hers right after it happend, and ive been online ever since trying to see what i can find out.  It's a terrible tradgedy, something this country has had enough of in the past few years.

Frome the video it looks like it is breaking apart during re-entry, but then again you can't see too much.

My dad called me around 8:30 to tell me, I could hear the news in the background so before he said anything I kinda knew what happened when I heard "explosion" "re-entry" and "NASA."

Very sad day  :wtf:

My thoughts are with the families of the crew.

I belive (if I heard it right, I was in the shower) that there were 5 americans and 1 Israili on board.

Yes.  This seems to be correct.

This is bringing back memories of 3rd grade when the Challenger blew up.  This is horrible...

I thought I just read in the Washinton Post that there were problems during take-off for this mission.  They said some debris hit a wing, but NASA assured everyone that is was VERY minor damage.  I wonder if this had anything to do with it.

EDIT

Quote from Washington Post:

"On launch day, a piece of insulating foam on the external fuel tank came off during liftoff and was believed to have struck the left wing of the shuttle.

Leroy Cain, the lead flight director in Mission Control, had assured reporters Friday that engineers had concluded that any damage to the wing was considered minor and posed no safety hazard."

:wtf: My mom woke me up to tell me.. Seems like every time Im woken up early on a Saturday its not good news...

Yet another tragedy to add to our score... Its really too bad. Its hard to watch things like that, especially over and over like its gonna be shown, but I suppose thats just the way it goes. My main concern now is that hopefully poeple will leave the debris and all alone. Its gonna really disgust me when I hear about poeple taking "souveniers" and/ or trying to sell them... Thats the last thing we need...

Anywho, definate prayers and thoughts go out to the families and friends.

I'm in Dallas and heard the explosion which rattled my windows, 2 local stations had footage of it breaking apart.  Seems it didn't make it past East Texas.

Speaking of a-holes and souveniers, saw a couple on Ebay already.  And early on in the coverage they had a "spokeman" that said it was show down by Jackie Martling because he thought Howard Stern was on it
