Does the 2014 6.2 require premium fuel

Just wondering if the6.2 will require premium fuel??? Everyone says "if you can afford the truck you can afford the gas" but at 50 cents a gallon more it makes a difference at least to me. I have a 2007 6.0 with 4:10 and am afraid the 5.3 with 3:73 will not get it done when I pull my camper so would like the 6.2 but dont think I can handle the price difference of the fuel, the difference in mileage is not that much that wouldnt bother me its the premium requirement that will stop me from getting it

No e85 near you? My 6.0 requires premium I know that and I think the current 6.2 does

It doesn't require premium. I understand where you are coming from. Most people don't drive enough miles a year that the extra $10 a fill up matters, but if you are like me and you fill drive 30K+ mikes a year then it does factor in, especially when less fuel economy means more fill ups. The 13 needed it but I don't think the 14 does.

The compression ratio is 11.5: 1. You can bet it needs premium fuel.

Look for top tier fuel suppliers & you can also check gas buddy for the best prices in your area.

On Premium, it is pretty easy to find $.20 cents per gallon differences, even with top tier stations.

Not sure what new ones well be, but the current ones are 10.5:1. Either way, you are right, compression says to run higher octane.

I bought a 50,000 dollar truck and I am concerned with gas mileage. I like to know I have a very capible truck that gets the best gas mileage possible. I don't know how people can say if u spend that much on a truck then gas shouldn't even be a thought. I think if you paying 50 grand for a truck it better do a lot and being as fuel efficient as possible is one of those things.

The higher compression is negated by the direct fuel injection. The 5.3 also has 11.5 to 1 and only requires 87 octane..

The 5.3 needs 89.

Nope, per the manual it needs 87. The 6.2 says 91 but 87 can be used.. Straight from the book that came on my 2014. Page 9-73.

Of course 87 can be used, but you are missing out on 40-50hp. It needs a minimum of 89 to be optimal. Marketing at its finest by GM. If they told buyers they had to run premium, less people would be inclined to buy them.

So you are saying that if I ran 89 octane in my 5.3 that I would have another 40-50 horsepower? Or is that just the 6.2? I am half tempted to fill up on higher octane next time just to see if it makes a big differance or not..
