Warranty Question......Tranny line leaking

Recommended Posts

On my 2010 1500 Ext Cab LTZ Silverado, I Just discovered that my tranny line coming out of ( or going into ) the cooler is leaking. Small drops were found on the driveway this morning. I assume since this is tranny related that it would be covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. The truck has 55,000 miles on it.

Can anybody confirm? I cant get to a dealer for a few days.

Thanks

Chevrolet Owners Warranty.....Just checked the warranty details, unfortunately the cooler lines are not covered. You may be able to verify this by calling the dealer ahead of time, but they may not give you an answer over the phone and charge you a diagnostic fee to check it out.

Lines are not going to be covered, unless maybe you are just barely out of warranty and squeak loud enough they may "Goodwill" them

Thanks for the info guys.

A couple of hours ago, I decided to go the route of calling GM customer care and see what they would do based on my situation. I spoke to a very nice individual who opened a case regarding my vehicle. I explained the situation and he confirmed that the lines are not covered. I took his response and politely replied that I didnt understand how the lines, that feed the transmision its fluid would not be covered under this warranty. That I could simply let the lines drip until all the fluid was gone and then have the transmission burn up. I explained that I am not that kind of person, but in reality, something like this should be directly related to the powertrain and covered under the warranty. He said he understand where I was coming from and said he would see what gm could do. He offered to contact my local dealer ( where i purchased the truck ) and see if he could push the issue of having this fixed under the warraty. Saying that the dealer is supposed to go by the "book" in terms of whats covered and what is not, but since i contacted customer care first, that he would see what he could do to resloved the issue. I am dropping the truck of tomorrow morning and I guess I will wait and see what they decide do......

UPDATE: I just went under the truck to do my oil change ( which is what led me to notice this dripping tranny lines.... )........well, wouldnt you know it......the oil cooler lines are also leaking as well. All seem to be coming from the same areas.....the crimp connections on the rubber hoses.

Lets see what GM decides to do when I point this out when i drop off the truck.

I am very, very dis-heartened to have these kind of issues on a truck with 55,000 miles. Its so hard to buy american when this is the quality we get. $43,000 sticker price for this truck and leaking lines at only 55k miles.

Your getting suckered in. By going to the dealer, you are going to get billed for looking at the problems. They won't be covered. The bill will be more than just having a local shop fix the issues in the first place. Just get it fixed & move on.

Agreed. GM is known to have oil cooler and tranny lines leak. heck, on an S-10 forum I was on they actually had a sticky about replacing the lines because eventually you would have to do the work.

FWIW may people cut the crimp off the end, slid the hose over the tube and clamped it back together without any issues what so ever. no more crimped ends.

Well, got the call back from the dealer. They said they are going to replace all the lines ( tranny and oil ) and refill with fresh fluids. $300 plus tax. They said it would normally have been a $800-900 job ( $200 in parts 5-6 hours of labor ). After getting under the truck and seeing how much of a pain this would have been for me, I said go a head. I've seen some posts on the cut and splice with a rubber hose and some clamps, but I didn't want to for that route. I'd rather replace with exact parts. Replacement oem hoses look to have run about $125 from rock auto. Including time and aggrevation, to me, $300 ain't bad.

Perhaps the call to GM customer care was worth a little something.
