Silverado MPG Computer??

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 3500 LT Dually but for some reason it does not have the 4 buttons with the trip computer (MPG etc). I bought a scangauge2 but am now hearing I have to calibrate it every fuel fill up just to have accurate readings on MPG? Seems like a waste. Is there anyway to add the factory computer to my silverado? I thought all chevys came with it. Even my express work vans at work all have it.

Easy fix. Just check behind the light switch to make sure you have the harness to plug into the new dic. My harness was just "plugged" into a dummy plug in the back of the standard light switch. I also have a scan gauge and after running a couple tank fuels through the gas milage seems pretty accurate. Where you'll run into problems with the scan gauge is if you don't fill up when you get gas. If you buy $20 worth here and there it jacks up the reading. I just input the amount of gallons and cost into the scan gauge when I fill up and that's it.

Here's the dic I got for my 2012, double check the part number for your truck.

You will gain a lot of options from that little panel other than just the MPG computer.

Very nice upgrade, I did it to my 09 Silverado LS.

I think unless you have the WT package you should have the capability of adding it.

^My 2012 WT truck still had the plug back there. That seems to be hit or miss but definitely worth a peek behind the panel before you drop the $$ for the dic.

Awesome thanks guys! My dad has a 2007 (early older body style) Duramax dually and has the computer, I have a 2007 Denali XL that has it and a 2011 1500 silverado that has it. I always wondered why my dually didn't have it. Will go check now. I'm assuming the panel just pops off?

my 2013 wt 2500 had it also. ordered it from a dealer on ebay for 78 shipped to house. only found out about it after looking around this forum. great upgrade

Kind of weird that it only has one trip calculator and no timer or avg speed. You would think GM would have one computer for all the vehicles rather than several different ones.

Dumb question, but would this mod provide a temperature readout in place of the generic (ice warning) on a 2012? If so, I'm there...

It doesn't on my 2012, still just get the ice warning. I mainly did it for the individual tire pressures. I think the only way to get the outside temp is to get a rearview mirror that has it.

Mine is a 2010 and already had the temp/ compare to the right of the odometer. Still there after the computer add on. I don't get tire pressures though and so e of my other vehicles do, maybe because it's a dually?

I don't think the 3500's are required by law to have TPMS on them. Do you know if your wheels even have sensors?

It won't. Above a certain GVWR the system isn't required.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
