just got off the phone with onStar, got an app for my android phone that allows me to start the truck (2012 GMC Sierra) from anywhere in the world! talk about range  the app is called onStar remote link.

I tried it and it works great. i am, able to start my truck from anywhere i get a connection. Very happy about this as my range of the auto start fob was not very good. works with apple and android. i got 3 months for free for being a new owner. 2014 owners get 5 years of free remote link service...You can also lock or open your truck, see fuel level, Fuel left, fuel range, oil life and tire pressure, horn and lights can be turned on or off.. I'm pretty dam impressed ! RCR

I was excited about this when i got my truck 2 weeks ago, until the iOS app doesn't recognize that I have remote start, and how horribly slow the app is.

My free trial is up now on my '13, but it worked very well. Although, I never used it in a situation where I was locked out because if the keys are in the ignition, the truck keeps itself unlocked.

My OnStar has expired and I am not willing to pay their huge fees just so I can start my truck from further than 100-200 feet.

I agree the cost of this feature is high.. they gave me till march to try it out for free , at which time i will cancell it and look at it again in the late fall. It's the only thing i think i would use from the whole onstar package. But definitally a very usefull app. Leaving work at 11:00 at night and walking 500 feet to get in a cold truck with leather seats sucks!

I wouldn't pay the fee for it either, but for 2014+ models, you get key fob services free for 5 years.
