2014 Chevy 2500

2014 regular cab 1500 trucks with either the 4.3 or 5.3 are the only GM half tons are the only GM 1500's that offer VYU plow prep and also the only trucks on the market with electric power steering AND plow prep. There is not enough allowable front payload on the bigger cabs to put a plow on there without easily exceeding it.

They only allow for 40lbs maximum permanent truck mounting (plow frame, etc.) and a max plow weight of 500lbs. The plow companies might allow for something bigger but you are on your own if you exceed GM's allowable weight limits components fail due to plow use.

So after owning 3 silverado crew cabs 1500 ltz and always having a plow installed on them I have to get rid of my 2014 and probably get a 2500 because my dealer tells me I can't put a plow on a 1500 anymore. I have never been a fan of the ride quality of a 2500 so I'm really confused.

Not even your older crew cabs are/were plow prep capable. Only regular cab trucks on 1500. This is no different now than before.

Something doesn't make sense. The specs show the exact same "front axle capacity" of 3950 lbs for Crew, double and standard cabs.

Does anybody know what the "plow prep" is exactly for these vehicles? I'm guessing it's less a matter of "capability" and more a matter of reducing the options allowed on certain trucks. Like the standard cab is plenty "capable" of having a 6.2 put in, they just decided not to do it.

I wouldn't plow w/ a nice new truck like this period anyhow. I'd get a POS ford ranger 4x4 that was already rusting from the ground up and use that before I'd put a plow on my current truck.

I did see a new 2014 regular cab w/ a plow on it @ the gas station the other day though. I think it was a 4.3 4x4.

VYU: Snow Plow Prep Package includes power feed for backup and roof emergency light, (KW7) 170-amp alternator, forward lamp wiring harness, (TRW) Provision for cab roof mounted lamp/beacon, (K47) high-capacity air cleaner, (NZZ) underbody shield and Heavy Duty Front Springs.

I do not see anything besides the heavy duty springs that would make a big difference with the plow installed. Looks like everything could be easily retrofitted.

It could be the "power feeds" mean an entirely different wiring harness with plugs for them is installed in the standard cabs but not the others.

I'm happy to see heavy duty springs available. After hanging 300 lbs of bumper and winch on the front of mine I think I'll look into getting a pair.
