2014 Chevy 2500

So after owning 3 silverado crew cabs 1500 ltz and always having a plow installed on them I have to get rid of my 2014 and probably get a 2500 because my dealer tells me I can't put a plow on a 1500 anymore. I have never been a fan of the ride quality of a 2500 so I'm really confused.

According to my manual...

-If the vehicle does not have the snow plow prep package, adding a plow can damage the vehicle, and the repairs would not be covered by warranty. Unless the vehicle was built to carry a snow plow, do not add one to the vehicle. If the vehicle has the snow plow prep package, called RPO VYU, then the payload the vehicle can carry will be reduced when a snow plow is installed. The vehicle can be damaged if either the front or rear axle ratings or the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) are exceeded.

Wow.. That is some crazy info. I would be inclined to believe that no one would really know this before hand when purchasing a new 1500. This is upsetting news to me due to the fact I was considering a plow for home use on my 1500.

It really does suck cause now I have to trade it in and loose a lot of money.

With the frame and front end changes made for 2011 and newer 2500s, the snow plow prep package is available with the diesel. Previously it was only available with the gasser.

So here's probably a stupid question: Is there any way they can replace parts/retrofit your truck to be able to handle a snow plow? Not sure what is different. If it was possible that sure would be cheaper (?) than trading it in and taking a loss.

A lot of snowplow makers are gonna be p/o if they are unable to make a retro fit for the 1500 with out the snow plow prep.

On the 2500's it was a revised front axle, with a weight rating to carry both the diesel and the plow. (on '10 and earlier the plow prep kit could only be ordered with the gas engine).

I didn't think the ever 'authorized' installation of plows on 1500's. I'm sure that plow retailers (and some GM dealers) will install a plow on any truck you want.

No, the issue is Electronic Power Steering. Ford went through this in 2011 followed by Ram & now GM. This is something I would have expected dealers to tell customers that are in the snow belt at the very least.

But am thinking I would buy a beater to put a plow & maybe a very small spreader on. Let that thing take the abuse vs the new 14 as well as the smack of trading a brand new truck back in.

It's because of the electric steering the dealer tells me and Gm should reiumbarce me for the gm points I used and the $1500 bonus from my gm card that now I don't have 3 months later to go buy a new truck

And you could probably get a pretty nice beater between the trade-in loss and the cost of a 2500. Great idea!

there are pictures in the plowing forum of members with plows installed on 2014 1500. they have no issues to report.

If I recall I think starting in 2011 the f150s also could not have a plow equipped. Period. There was no plow prep package. They want to bump people up to the 3/4 ton for plowing.

So it's not just GM doing this.
