Dealer issue

Unfortunately, I've seen this too many times on car forums. Not trying to bash the OP, but I don't get why anybody wouldn't do their due diligence when buying a car these days with how easy information can be had on the Internet. Buying a car for many is most likely the second largest purchase they will make next to buying a house. I truly hope this is one of those circumstances where the dealer accidentally gave the OP the wrong truck out of the inventory instead of the one he inquired about purchasing. I've seen that happen too; especially from volume dealers. I had a friend purchase an F150 ecoboost, made the deal and all, when he got home he realized that there was no NAV. The dealer had 5 trucks matching the color and everything, some without NAV some without sunroof...and all all arranged out on the lot by cab configuration, color and trim package. If not, lesson learned. Good luck OP.

I don't feel bashed. I did do some research, but the RPO codes are so damn confusing. Some RPO's contain other RPO's...etc etc. The PDF for this truck is 168 pages long. There was no wrong truck to give, I got the truck that I was sitting in. I could honestly be on this site for a month and still be confused when I go to buy.

I've attached the PDF if anyone is interested.

Even if the change out your rear gears your truck still is only legally rated to tow 6600lbs. If you ever got in an accident towing more than that you would be screwed.

This can't be true, can it?

The wierdest part of this story is that the dealer had supposedly told him the Z71 decals had been removed. Why would they do that, and why didn't that raise huge red flags to the OP?

Waiting to hear what happened.

Because I sincerely trusted this particular salesman, and still do. The owner of this dealership has also been a long time customer of mine which is why I chose to buy from him. I don't know him more than a hello in passing, so I'm going to let his staff take care of it, for now.

It is true. Your truck may now have the same mechanicals as one rated for 9900lbs, but GM stamped your at 6600lbs therefore making you overwieght if you tow more than that.

Man i would never go to a dealer any dealer first without looking online to see what they had on their lot. If you go to the Chevy website you can look at the window sticker for the truck you are interested in and not have to sort through build codes.

can you post a picture of window sticker? that will tell all. that pdf looks like all rpos that gmc offers. you will have to cross check that list with rpo sticker in glove box to see what's on truck. I think parts dept. can run vin also.
