Dealer issue

I've owned my truck for 3 weeks now and I love it, but I've discovered a couple things that are eating away at me. First I was told the towing capacity was 9600, but then I found that with the 3.08 gears it is only 6600. I went to the dealership with this and they said they would change it out to 3.42. I am satisfied with that.

Next is a set of box rails that were supposed to come with this GFX package that was installed. I went to the GFX website and it says included. Not a big deal as I dont think I would keep them on anyway, but they should be mine since I paid for them.

Last, and most aggrivating, is Z71 package that I was told was included, but that the Z71 decals had been removed. I like a clean looking vehicle so I thought that was great. Looking at the RPO codes I do not see the Z71. No skid plates either so I am guessing I don't have it.

I want to be clear that I don't think I was intentionally misled, I think it is just lack of knowledge on their end.

I'm kinda pissed off and want to tell them to just get me the truck I paid for. Advice?

Sit down with all parties involved with your sale. Telling someone the decals had been removed would be a line that whoever told you would remember. If they "don't remember saying that", you know they're lying. At least at that point you'd know if the dealership was willing to do the right thing.

Most dealerships seem pretty afraid of getting negative surveys also, so you have that ace up your sleeve also.

But I think you'll have good luck sitting down with them and discussing these issues. It sounds like they're willing to make an effort (at least with the gears).

Whatever you do, keep your cool and stay calm when you talk to them. But let them know you are dissatisfied.

Good luck.

Sometimes research on your end goes way further than any assistance from a dealer or salesperson. My salesman didn't know shit about how the truck worked or the options it had and offered no assistance other than being a middle man between me and the finance manager when negotiating the deal.

Does your truck have the Z71 specific grille and lower bumper insert? That should be a obvious indicator right there...

Same exact truck but WITHOUT the z71 package

Or look at the gauge cluster, it should have a Z71 emblem on the speedo. Sounds like you got sold the wrong truck. It's good the dealer is willing to swap out you rear axle...that can be pretty pricey.

I agree with brentadam646 my sales guy didn't know anything about the truck I had read a lot on the forums to know what to look for.

seems to me being it's a new truck that there would (should) be a window sticker the OP should have. Dealers here in IL must keep on new car/truck,a law. Couldn't OP take said window sticker to dealer and discuss. I have a 07 ltz, I'm on this part of forum cause nephew has 14 ltz with issues. The 07 ltz,z71 were simple upgrades. Looks like it's a maze of options now. Still window sticker tells all. Could be a "he said she said" at dealer for OP. I see the OP is in Canada so different laws/rules ?.

it's -4(f) here in Chicago as I type. Might just as well be in Canada.

Seems like it's a 50/50 blame here. We know how dealers can be, and if this dealer misinformed the OP into buying something totally different; then it should be addressed. On the other hand, the OP should have done a little research and not go into the sale totally naive.

I too am curious if the window sticker was never looked at by the OP.

Hopefully everything can be resolved........

Hate to say this but I don't think they will move much, it will be a he said versus he said when it comes down to it.

Unfortunately, I've seen this too many times on car forums. Not trying to bash the OP, but I don't get why anybody wouldn't do their due diligence when buying a car these days with how easy information can be had on the Internet. Buying a car for many is most likely the second largest purchase they will make next to buying a house. I truly hope this is one of those circumstances where the dealer accidentally gave the OP the wrong truck out of the inventory instead of the one he inquired about purchasing. I've seen that happen too; especially from volume dealers. I had a friend purchase an F150 ecoboost, made the deal and all, when he got home he realized that there was no NAV. The dealer had 5 trucks matching the color and everything, some without NAV some without sunroof...and all all arranged out on the lot by cab configuration, color and trim package. If not, lesson learned. Good luck OP.

Even if the change out your rear gears your truck still is only legally rated to tow 6600lbs. If you ever got in an accident towing more than that you would be screwed.

The wierdest part of this story is that the dealer had supposedly told him the Z71 decals had been removed. Why would they do that, and why didn't that raise huge red flags to the OP?

Waiting to hear what happened.

LOL, I had a friend just purchase a new Silverado and didn't realize the truck didn't have actual nav it only had "navigation through telematics", he assumed the truck had it since it had the 8" touch screen. I told him over and over you have to look for the $795.00 option on the window sticker!!

Sidenote: On the new F150's they either have a touch screen or don't. ALL of the F150's that have the 8" touch screen have nav, not sure how your friend drove home a nav-less truck since with Ford its completely obvious... unless he's blind or thought the little dinky 3-4" screen had nav (2013) lol!!!!

Maybe they didn't remove the stickers and they were never there to start. Chevy may be different.... but I know with the GMC 2014... the Z71 ( bedside sticker decal) is extra $ and doesn't come with the Z71 package.. When you purchase a GMC Z71 they only come with the Z71 fender emblem....not the bedside sticker. In addition, the GMC and Chevy Z71 bedside decals are different for 2014... they don't share the same ones like in years past.

FX4 package actually can be had with the my touch system without NAV. The NAV comes with a sunroof packaged option. Sunroof can also be had without the NAV, which is the truck the dealer ended up pulling for him. It's very similar to the Chevy system. Dealer pulled the wrong VIN, he had to go back through his emails with the dealer to find the VIN number on the truck he emailed about. Dealer offered him more money back or a trade for the right truck, the suck thing was the dealer he bought from was 80 miles away.
