White Diamond Touch-ups

Picked up several minor scratches on the painted panel in the rear bumper of my 2013 Denali. Tried using the GM touch-up paint (small container w/brush) from the dealer, but found that it's a milky/clear when applied and after numerous applications, it's simply not covering like a solid color paint. Other than the body shop, anyone have any tips on effective use of white diamond touch-up paint?

Thanks

My wife's Enclave is WDT and the driver's side front to back was key'ed 6 months after we bought it. Luckily for us, our neighbor's son is the head painter at our local Chevy dealership and I have been cutting his mom's grass for years.

When I showed him what happened he was explaining to me that this is a very hard color to match and he was going to wet sand it first, and let me decide if I wanted to paint it or not. He did an amazing job and I can't even tell it was scratched at all.

Mine looked pretty bad before it was fixed. IMO I would be to see if this is an option first. Touched up paint always stands out.

if it is scratched past the base coat you will need use a white first the the white diamond. White diamond is a try stage paint meaning after priming a white base is sprayed they a translucent coat which has the pearl and binder is sprayed. Then they are toped with two coats of clear coat. Best way to fix is to use a white touch up paint aplied to coverage. Then wet sand the area with 2k grit paper to remove the white from the top coat so it is only whith in the damage. Then aply just ine coat of the white diamond and repeat sanding process just toget paint off surface of unaffected area. This will also help last coat of clear touch up paint to adhear. Just apply two to three smooth coat alowing ample time to dry in between. Once dried over night sand smooth and hit with a buffing compound. This will help melt the work in so it will be less noticable. Be sure not to be to agressive with the sand paper as you can san through the top coat if not careful.

This sounds like it should be left for a professional. I ask my neighbor's son about doing this method and he advised against it. He did do this on the tailgate on my truck where the tech at the dealership scratched it when removing the emblem, it is granite metallic though.

I have about tens years experience auto body so I am willing to do alot of different methods. But I forget some do not have the experience to pull some of this stuff off. I have fixed many rock chips this way. It works best with a airbrush so it atomizes and suspends metalics correctly.

This was the last pearl job I did. It was my pastors brand new 2013 mazda 5. His daughter accidentlly backed it out with both doors open and ins would not pay cause she was 15 and he did not lie to them about who did it. It came out great and he was extremely happy dispite the cost as this color is very expensive.

Some areas of these scratches were deep.

I would build up the scratch with layers I standard white then a final layer of the white diamond... Otherwise a detail shop can color sand and buff it for you for probably not a lot of money it may not disappear but it should be less noticable
