Transport from Mexico

My truck left from Mexico enroute to Syracuse NY distribution center a few days ago. I'm about 6 hours from Syracuse. Thoughts on when my Silverado will be delivered to the dealer?

I would think it takes at least 4 days to truck your vehicle from Mexico to New York state and then it depends how long it sits at its destination before it is shipped to the dealer. Give your dealer a call, I am sure he can help you more than anybody here can.

I read that a ship with a ton of trucks was damaged between mexico and jax. instead of sending off the trucks that were still good, they held them all for replacements. not sure on details, but that's the main idea, that's what held up a bunch of Christmas trucks from being built.

Mine is going from Mexico to Syracuse NY. When you say port what's that mean?

With most manufacturers "port" doesn't always associate with a water facility. It can be a processing center that they arrive to after leaving the factory.

For example, when I had my Subaru I learned something interesting. There is a chain of dealerships in the Boston area run by a guy named Ernie Boch Jr. Back in the 70s his father bought the rights to be the port of entry for every Subaru and Subaru part for New England and he did this for chump change because back then Subaru was all but unheard of. This includes American built models too. Things worked out well for him. I'd bet there may be similar deals for other brands too.

Up to 3 weeks is possible. The GM plant in Mexico is near Mexico City so it has a few days travel to get to the US point of entry and its going to have to change trains at least once since it has to cross the Mississippi. Then it could sit a week or more at the final detination before the truck carrier builds a full load on the route to your dealer.

Railroad distrbution center info

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18283

When your car is finally loaded onto a train car (called AutoRack), a railcar number will be assigned. Your dealer can call the Dealer Business Center and get the actual railroad company and the railcar number. The DBC can also provide the railyard that will receive your car. Once you have those pieces of info, you will be able to track your car as it moves thru the country.

All of the railroads listed have a tracking system in place. An online one for customers and a phone-in one for everybody else. The phone numbers are in the links I provided. You can call them up, give them your railcar number, and they can tell you where your car is and what the ETA is.

Once the vehicle reaches the railyard, it will be unloaded and "bayed", awaiting over-the-road transport. The phone numbers to the distribution centers are in those links as well.

AND, the over-the-road haulers that serve the particular distribution center you're looking at are listed as well. You can take the name of the hauler listed, Google them, and come up with a phone number if you desire.

Mine was shipped from Mexico to Massachusetts, it took two weeks, give or take the update time lag. It came by train.

Just curious, did you have any issue with rail rust, i.e. small particles of metal imbedded in the paint of the truck? some people encountered this problem several eyars ago when their trucks were moved by rail.
