I am looking for a tuck in order to haul my horses over the spring and summer seasons

-trailer is about 3500-4000lbs

-horses about 1500lbs

I will only be hauling max of 3 times a week over the two seasons with a gooseneck trailer, other than that it will be a casual city truck.

I need to know the differences between 1500 and 1500HD or if it is worth getting a 2500 and in what brand??

I will not be buying any diesels.

help!!

6.0 will be more than plenty. It can be had in many. I would find a 06-13 Chevy or GMC 1500 with the 6.0 or 6.2 as it will be plenty if optioned right.

Sounds like you will be towing frequently (3x a week), if you have 2 horses you are looking at 6500 - 7000 pounds. I would get an HD. Bigger parts, not much mpg loss, will last longer. IMO a half ton is for taking a 3000 lb boat up north for the weekend a few times a year. Just because it can pull it doesn't mean it pulls it well. My $0.02. You brought up a gooseneck hitch, if you have to sell a half ton with a gooseneck hitch in it that will raise a red flag with some buyers.

Would not reccommend a gooseneck for a 1500.. I would definitely get a 2500, the brakes are safer and it will way more stable.

Yeah gooseneck on a half ton is a no no... Most people won't even look at buying a 1500 that's had a bed hitch installed. Towing that much you'll be a lot happier with the 2500.

You need to watch PAYLOAD. Look at the yellow and white sticker located in your driver's door jam. Listed underneath your tire sizes it will say something as follows-The passengers and cargo for this vehicle shall not exceed XXXX. This is your payload. Your tongue weight will be 15% of your trailer.

You will be close. Please note towing capacity and payload must be figured separately. You may exceed payload BEFORE you exceed the towing capacity.
