Hidden HP

50hp is easily obtained with a tune alone. You start adding supporting mods like intake, exhaust, inter cooler, etc etc. 100hp is within reason.

Obviously I know these engines aren't tuned to their max, but with Ford making nearly the same HP and TQ with a smaller engine theoretically GM should be advertising higher numbers. Until then I guess I'll just have to order some 454 and SS stickers.

One of those programs on TV, trucks I think, claimed 100 HP with a tune. I figured a tuner would know for sure,

My information is probably outdated, I never seen over 65hp at the wheels gained on the Dyno, unless they already had exhaust and other minor supporting mods but that was 3 years ago.

Fords engine is a high revving DOHC motor with full variable valve timing. They can get more from less.

I figured your info would be more up to date than theirs, they tend to be a little out there for affect than real world.

It's certainly possible to make 100hp, we just weren't able to do it with the software we had at the time, not safely on pump gas anyway. It was very limited compared to what I now use on fords but HPtuners isn't opened up for the ecoboost at this point. I can say they are very tune friendly, but what turbo vehicle isn't.

Knowing what I know about the ecoboost, I still opted for a more expensive V8 Chevrolet, with less power, why? I still feel it is a superior truck in all aspects.

Type in "Ecoboost Bog" on Youtube and you can see the mighty Ecoboost's performance capabilities! Thing was a death trap, and from what i have read they still have these issues. Sure you can tune it roll close to 500ft/lbs to the ground but what good does it do you if you can't even pass a semi with your family in it without falling flat on it's face. I will take a GM with a 30 hp tune and a slight throttle delay all day.

This probably doesn't belong here but i just like to make people aware when they start talking about that truck. Run!

I doubt you will find more than 40rwhp with a tune only on the new GM trucks. With headers, exhaust, CAI and a tune maybe see something in the 75rwhp range.

You won't see 75rwhp without a cam added to that, and even then it will still be tough.

I think your last sentences sum it up best. These are amazing trucks in every way. I have four friends with new Ford Eco Boost F 150s. They are nice trucks, my Silverado is a great truck. If you open and close a Fords hood it wobbles around! I'm sorry but that's a deal breaker for me. The Ford is rated at higher horsepower. That would mean something if I wanted a street racer or if the 5.3 was underpowered. It isn't. The 5.3 has more than enough power to do the job it was designed for. If you fill it with E 85 it's rated at higher horsepower than the Ford. Those numbers don't mean squat in everyday use of the truck. The G.M. trucks are just nicer, better built, and longer lasting, and they have plenty of power stock. Chasing numbers is like a dog chasing his tail.
