Trans temp gauge

Just bought one off a member here wondering how you can get it on the side of the trans? Ive heard you can use the pressure port on the side just remove the bolt and screw in the brass fitting but I can't get to anything or even see the bolt on mine with all the exhaust and driveshaft in the way... I've also seen putting a tee in the cooling lines but not sure how or where to do that and I'm worried about it causing blockage. Any ideas?

Is this for your 06? If so, you already have the sending unit and wiring in your truck. Just replace your gauge cluster with and HD cluster with the temp gauge, and it'll be functional.

You probably don't want to waste the money on a gauge cluster if you already have the gauge, it works to just plug and play, but is expensive. I have a gauge in my 01, has the 4l60e like yours. I chose not to use the pressure port as it is a dead end passage, no fluid flow there so you would only be getting case temp. The cooler line works, but you have to make sure it is not on the return side or you will get a way low reading, and you have to cut, flare, etc. What I did was take the tranny pan off and drill a hole in the side of it (on the driveshaft side) and weld a nut on the inside for the NPT threaded sensor to screw into. It gets a good pan temp reading and doubles as a drain plug... I can post pics if interested.

there is trans temp in the data stream ,,,,,do you have a tuner that can access data ?

and there is no sending unit ,,,its in the pressure switch on the valve body

I plugged the brass fitting into the pressure port. There is fluid flow because it leaked on me im just trying to figure out where to run the wire to it from my pillar

Not on the carpet I could look though I'll probably have to run through the firewall and down through the engine bay but it's gonna be a pain in thee ass

There is a pressure port I believe on the passenger side of the trans, which will accept a 1/8 NPT sensor (you need the appropriate sensor which hopefully you received with the gauge), if not you will need to use an appropriate adapter. If the gauge is electrical (opposed to mechanical) you should consider a in line fuse from the gauge to the fuse block (it is overkill, however better safe than sorry).

I would not mess with the trans cooling lines, you will get an accurate enough reading from the case, by passing the vehicles computer. The rule of thumb is transmission fluid starts to deteriorate @ 210F. You may consider using a deeper fin aluminum pan which will help keep things cooler.

Looks nice and clean, I have old eyes so I went with "Cyburdine" digital transmission temperature gauge along with a digital water temperature gauge in Sara (2001 Z28).

Where did you guys route the wire from the sender to the gauge? How did you avoid the exhaust pipe and manifolds?
