HVAC Controls - How to really turn off A/C?

It's in the Manual.

Climate Controls 8-9

Passenger Compartment

Air Filter

The filter removes dust, pollen, and

other airborne irritants from outside

air that is pulled into the vehicle.

The filter should be replaced as part

of routine scheduled maintenance.

See Maintenance Schedule on

page 11-3. To find out what type of

filter to use, see Maintenance

Replacement Parts on page 11-14.

1. Open the lower glove box door

completely.

2. Remove the four screws from

around the lower glove box. The

door does not need to be

removed to access the screws.

3. Close the lower glove box door

and pull from its frame to

remove the entire unit

4. Release the two tabs holding the

service door. Open the service

door and remove the old filter.

5. Install the new air filter.

6. Close the service door and

secure the tabs.

7. Reverse the steps to reinstall the

glove box.

See your dealer if additional

assistance is needed.

Changing the engine air filter seems to be a kittle more involved.

Why do they make these things so difficult?

If you absolutely just have to deactivate your AC, you can disconnect the compressor clutch, or disconnect the high or low side pressure sensors. Any one of those should prevent the clutch from engaging without pulling a fuse. Easier to access the pressure sensors too.

I don't really want to/need to "deactivate" the A/C, was just wanting the option of having recirc w/out running he compressor. i guess my original question/intent should have been to ask if there was any possibilty of having the option/ability to turn on/off the A/C compressor independent of the recirc function. from the other posts and a little other interweb searching, it sounds like no, the engineers decided that was not an option.
