Why gm continues to use that antiquated steel wheel design is beyond me. The truck can be great but that wheel design just screams of how the company can't let bad habits die. I think its unacceptable even in police spec.

Police vehicles always have cheapo wheels. Look at any vehicle- Charger, Caprice, the Taurus and Explorer, they're all cheapo steelies.

The neighboring town here has so many Tahoe's its getting ridiculous. One wreck had 5 I think on the scene. The load the spoiler above the back window, and both D pillers with LED's. Seeing them from behind lit up is quite a sight. I think they are replacing all their cars with them.

Here the city police went to Taurus SHO's and EcoBoost AWD Explorers, State Highway Patrol went to All EcoBoost AWD Explorers, County Sheriffs went all GM, Tahoes and Caprices. The city gets the Taurus for about $19,000 I believe

Don't assume they are SHOs. From what I've seen, the vast majority of police cars are base model/drivetrains, at least around here.

They are "Base" trims, but they ARE AWD EcoBoosts. Both are packing the Taurus SHO's twin turbo 3.5 and AWD system. I am just speaking for my local police depatment and the Highway Patrol in my area. They are cycling out the old Crown Victorias for these new cars. I know several officers(yet it doesnt help when I am pulled over) and i have been told what they are getting

I don't see a 6.2 offered, so I guess I'm safe for now.

I always thought law enforcement spec'd steel wheels for durability in pursuit situations, and compensated for the increased weight with the smaller diameter tires. Any LEOs care to chime in?

The truck isn't pursuit rated. And police vehicles use steelies for cost savings when, not if they get bent curb hopping or whatnot.

I see it working for game wardens but not so much the police. Our local pd has one truck on patrol and it's a Ram they confiscated from a drug dealer. It even has "drug dealer confiscated vehicle" on the tailgate. I'm assuming that's a warning to the others lol

The regular 3.5L is the base engine.

All of them here are badged "police interceptor" and "Ecoboost AWD" you can hear the turbos in the next lane. Im sure the base used is the regular 3.5 but they ordered Ecoboosts here. It made news when a cop totaled one while seeing what it could do on an unfinished road
