Brake installaton

I have been a backyard mechanic for many years doing all my own work on my vehicles. I now own a 2006 Chevy K1500 4WD Suburban which I think needs brakes. Easy job as with older disc brake systems or should I take it to a garage? They are quoting me about $350 for front and about the same for rear. Are these prices typical? :banghead:

Easy work to do yourself, and if it's discs all around, even easier...to me. I have done all the brakes on my truck since it was new. Pretty straight forward job. If you're unsure of yourself, get a Chilton or Haynes manual for your vehicle. Either way save yourself the $$. Just make sure when you are buying rotors/drums you get the kind that are ready to install, no turning required. Stay with OEM type as in ceramic pads, don't go real cheap as you will be replacing the parts again in a short time.

Typical disc brake job. Biggest snag you can plan on is finding the correct size of Torx bit to remove the caliper bolts.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. Guess probably I removed them from mine, never to return. Darn things ate two of my torx bits.

Do it yourself, don't waste money if you don't need to.

We did the rear discs and pads last year without a problem. I recommend premium ac delco pads with centric rotors, this combo is exceptional and super clean. I'm about to add ac delco pads to the front because they're super worn out and noisy. And I'm sick and tired of the constant dust from the cheap auto zone pads that are on there lol.
