03 Silverado problem

Hey Guys glad to be on.

My wife has an 03 Silverado 1500 2wd 4.3

I noticed something strange while driving it the other day... I was cruising down the interstate in OD and Roma got around 3000rpms and suddenly the tach started jumping between 3k to about 5k. The engine sounded fine ( was surging like rpms were) and there was a strange popping sound from what sounded like the trans. While this was happening vehicle never gained speed just slowly got slower. You can step on the gas and it will stop or you can let of the gas a bit and it will stop. The problem is intermittent.

Any ideas would be helpful

3-4 clutch has failed ,,,i suggest a road test with a guy who knows trannies ,,,

 

and a scanner to pull a code or 2

There are no trans codes... Just an evap code... If 3-4 clutch has failed... Wouldn't it act up all the time???

nope ,it will catch now and again till the clutch piston cant lock the pack by bottoming out ,,,,,

 

check oil condition ,,,,,no codes means nothing when a mechanical concern ,,,,it was just another thing to check
