buying advice for first silverado

According to the quick kelly blue book search I did it says you're actually getting a deal and it quoted 15,964 as the "fair purchase price". There are a couple of other programs out there that you could check. When test driving I would check for obvious leaks, can it stop on a dime, when you let go of the steering wheel does it pull to one side? I'd also get underneath and check the frame out, is there a lot of rust or anything that doesn't look right? Work the tranny and check out reverse also all of the dials on the dash.

Also look for shakes and wobbles at higher speeds make sure it shifts through all the gears check all available paperwork on the truck if they took it in shops for repairs or they did it themselves

Honestly, I would try to find a different truck with fewer miles even if it is a lower trim level. That is a lot of cash for an eight year old truck with that amount of miles to me.

There was some oil burning issues with some of those engines. Don't know how you can check that, but just be aware.

Check the oil and trans fluid for burnt smells and discoloration after driving a bit.

You can also take it to your dealer and have them do an inspection it's usually always free.

What is a GM truck doing at a Ford dealer? Do you think the prior owner had so many problems that he wouldn't buy another GM vehicle? And went to a Ford dealer and traded it in. Also I wouldn't buy a GM vehicle from a Ford dealer. Nor would I buy a Ford vehicle at a GM dealer. Just in case you have to take it back for repairs. How many Ford dealers do you think have a lot of Tech ll laying around for diagnosing a GM vehicle?

Just food for thought. If you are like my kids what I have to say doesn't mean a lot. :idiot:

Hey guys i'm looking to buy my first silverado this week. I'm wondering what a fair price would be for this 2007 extended cab ltz z71 with 130,228 miles? http://mikecarpinoford.com/Pittsburg/For-Sale/Used/Chevrolet/Silverado-1500/2007-LTZ-Maroon-Truck/23503706/

Also what should i look for when test driving it?

Only place I'd buy a used vehicle is from a private seller and I agree with the chevy at ford/ford at chevy sentiment..... they aren't going to tell you if it's an oil burner or not, how many hub's it's been through, if it's a notorious out of alignment truck, etc.

to me, this doesn't sound good. Check this forum and search for gmt-900 problems and you'll likely get the following:

oil burner (this is famous now)

front wheel hubs

ball joints

brakes

transmission shifting accompanied with cylinder deactivation complaints

cloth interior complaints

steering shaft problem

emissions control solenoid associated with the charcoal canister, evap solenoid issue

if you know the issues and you can, or have somebody who can confirm this truck doesn't have them... then ok.

if i had to get a 2007 silverado to get me into a pricepoint, I'd go after a 2006, the new body style isn't worth the issues... if you want a new body style, late 2009 early 2010 is the way to go.... heck you might do well on 2013 with some miles on it and get into the last run of that body style.

I love the body style, great truck, but know what you're getting and good idea to come here.

I was going to say the 2009-2013 have the better 6-spd auto, rear back-up camera's became an options, as well as, MP3 ports on the radio head unit.

I also would recommend finding a truck with leather seat covers. It was an option to get leather covers in the lower priced LT & SLE trim level too (without having to pay the LTZ/SLT price sticker). The cloth just plain sucks.
