'03 1500 Silverado, reset and re-calibrate temperature control

I have an '03 1500 Silverado LS extended cab. Original owner, 125K, by far the most reliable pickup truck I have ever owned.

 

Over the weekend, my windshield washer wasn't working right. I discovered that one of the hard supply lines going from the reservoir toward the windshield had a crack in it. I fixed it by splicing in a piece of rubber tubing. In order to make that repair, I had to remove the battery.

 

This morning, my temperature control is stuck on wide open heat (both driver side and passenger side). When I got to the office, after searching this forum and finding nothing, I asked Google for some help and found this:

Sure enough, that fixed the problem. So I'm posting this for two reasons:

 

1. To let others know about it.

2. To ask if others think I am only masking the problem? Will this issue re-surface and if so, what would be the permanent fix?
