Stock Exhaust Removal

This is what I bought. I called gibson and they said it was their quietest exhaust which is what I wanted. I also bought these exhaust tips to go with the system since I've been blacking out my truck.

I had to cut mine but it was on the ground. I dropped the spare tire but there still wasn't enough room for the front of the pipe to clear the cross member. Now with the rear axle at full droop, there might be enough room for the muffler to be pushed far enough to the rear for the front of the pipe to drop down and clear the cross member. That'll all make since once you're under there.

And also, I don't know if there's more room for a 5.3L exhaust due to the smaller pipe diameter.

Dang I hope I am able to pull it out. I dont know if I will be able to get the suspension at Full droop. I guess I am gonna have toe play with it. I guess if I do end up having to cut, in the event that I need to put it back in, I could have a shop weld it back on somehow....

Just spit balling here...what about if I drive the rear tires up onto a ramp and try to pull everything out forward over the rear axle?

A pair if jack stands would probably get the rear at least close if not totally at full droop.

I cut mine between the 2 nist rear hangers so if I did need to reinstall it, I could just use a exhaust ban-clamp and that should hold it.

But we'll see in that unlikely event.

Where do you put the jack stands in the rear? Normally I would lift by the shock mounts on the rear axle, but that wont allow the rear end to fully droop.

Would you the leaf spring hangers? Front one or rear one?

I would try the front spring hangers to get the most lift.

Roger that. I'll see what I can do.

Not going to happen without a lift. I tried ramps. Jack stands, too... no dice.

If you have a lift, then you can probably do it... otherwise, it's an exercise in futility.

...but hey, knock yourself out. Give it a shot. Maybe you'll succeed where others have failed and prove us all wrong. (I damn sure hope so, because I hated cutting off my stock exhaust... then throwing it into the recycle bin.)

I talked to another guy on this forum, with the same cab style, and bed length and engine who was able to get the exhaust out in one piece.

Er'body chill. Jeez

Yeah well I would try jack stands on the front part of the spring hangers setting the jacks on wood or concrete blocks to get it up higher and drop the spare tire down as well.

If that doesn't work, go to a shop with a lift and have them remove the exhaust then drive back home and install your catback

Alright thanks.

from a PM with a member who got his exhaust out in one piece...for the doubters in this thread.

The stock exhaust can def be removed in one piece. There was no way I was gonna cut that, to expensive to replace.

What I did was jack up the exhaust side of the truck from the frame rail. Got as close to the rear axle as possible. Jacked it up till the rear wheel came off the ground. Then I put two jack stands in there for safety. Def don't want it coming down on top of you. Drop your spare tire to the ground, no need to remove. Unbolt/loosen the exhaust Flange. It has a flex pipe so it will work with you. I then removed all the hangers with a flat head screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the rubber hangers, wedge open and spray some WD40 in there. Makes it slippery and helps it slide out. Once its all undone pull it out over the rear axle. You'll get to a certain spot over the axle and will need to spin the exhaust about 180° to get it over the rear axle, and clear the ground and bumper.

Trust me it comes out. You just need patience. Two sets of hands is even better, but I did do it by myself. I had to lay on my back and use my foot to hold up the front side of the exhaust will I pulled and spun the rear.

What does he mean when he says drop your spare tire to the ground, no need to remove it? This seems to contradict itself?

you dont need to take it off the cable, just lower it to get it out of the way. Its not hard to take off the cable though.

Im doing my exhaust this weekend. I will take pics or make a video and post it here for everyone.

Teaser, came out in one piece no problemo, it started pouring rain here as soon as i finished so I couldn't make a video.

Did you use the front spring hangers to get the most lift and lower the spare tire?
