Black Diamond Tread - Side Bed Rail Protector

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a company that makes Black Diamond Tread - Side Bed Rail Protector for the 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab Short Box? I've found that Dee Zee makes a cap for the tailgate shown in this link, but I can't seem to find side rail caps anywhere.

If anyone knows of anything I would really appreciate it.

I spoke with Dee Zee. The make black tread bed rail caps that fit the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 in all bed sizes, but they do not know if they would fit on the 2014 GMC Sierra. The tailgate black tread piece for the 2013 fits the 2014. I've installed this and confirmed for myself. I wonder if anyone is willing to try this out?

Wouldn't you want the piece that covers the whole backside of the tailgate instead of just a cap?

I had the full cover on my old truck and would have put one on this except they threw in the whole plastic bed cover when I bought mine.

The 14s have a built in spoiler on the tail gate, the 13s bolts on I believe.

My 2041 gmc sierra has no built in spoiler

How do you figure that? All 2014 GM trucks have the built in spoiler...

Sorry. I thought you meant something different. Still the thread is about having tread caps on the side rails not the tailgate

I think he is pointing out the difference between the '13 and '14 tailgate as well because of the OP's picture. I wouls also point out that the OEM side rail covers are different in size and shape as well as the back two stake holes are not rectangle like the older models making them hard to match up. Unless, of course, somone makes them specifically for '14+ models.

I ordered the deezee tailgate cover, but it does not match the picture on the website. It arrived damaged, so I am sending it back anyway. The model they sell for the 2014 does not wrap over the the top of the tailgate and cover the lip of the back spoiler. I actually only need the cap, but I want it to cover the lip on the spoiler. Can you please post a pic of the cap installed on a 2014? I am worried that it is cut the same as the full tailgate cover, and the Deezee people have not responded.

I need something to cover the lip on the spoiler. I already have a couple dents on that lip, I think Chevy dropped the ball on not bringing the stock cap over the back of the spoiler to protect it. If you tow, you will quickly find out that the tailgate might hit your trailer jack depending on what type of trailer you have. My Dodge was not even close to hitting the jack on any of the trailers I towed. I can't find any pics of an aftermarket tailgate cap installed on a 2014, they're all for the 2013 and prior.

    • I don't think so. 😏 Cars? Our experience will diverge there as well. I was buying cars with 200K (1970's) when I started and quite a few were pretty solid cars. (My early stuff was 1964 to 1968)  Some stinkers but not the dismal picture painted above. Now that said, yes, a dealer wouldn't talk to you if your car had more than 60K on the clock and lot cars were 60K or less except the back row where 100-120K was the auction bought for dirt for us poor losers. Kids in my county were not allowed to wear long pants if they couldn't rebuild and repair every part of that beast.    I will agree that many parts are now better. Alternators and charging systems are an envy. But I replaced few water pumps or power steering pumps then. Rebuilt carburetors but replaced few. Mufflers are another place of OEM improvement. • Have a question concerning trim levels. Ive not bought a new vehicle since 2006, and I have decided on a 2500 gmc pro or silverado custom. For anyone that has one of these 2 trim levels have you regretted not stepping up to the LT or SLE. I look at things as the more electronics the more problems to arise. I love the look of the old school gauges on the dash as well. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
    • If that guage has a way to adjust [hex on bottom], put that thing in a glass full of ice, put water in, put your gage in, let it sit for 3 minutes or so, and set it to 33 degrees.
