Auxiliary fuel tank

So I do a considerable amount of traveling with my travel trailer and have become painfully aware how small a 26 gallon fuel tank really is. I have found several 35 gallon transfer tanks that are approved for gas. I am thinking about a simple ball valve off the tank drain to the overflow tube which appears to run right next to the filler tube. Doing it safely is important and I know the tank is vented and has rollover protection. Tank is aluminum with baffles. Don't necessarily want to transfer while driving but just open valve drain and done. I'm well aware of the dot stuff and think this should be a pretty acceptable safe system. Anyone have experience on gasser or any thoughts welcome.

I have done the same set up with my last two DSL trucks. Works great. Downfall is that you loose valuable box space. It's too bad that Titan tanks does not make something for the 2014 gm 1500 trucks. Keep in mind also that this will effect your payload.

Yes your right on that payload issue. I crunched the numbers and figure I can safely do a 30-35 gallon tank safely. I checked Titan first a well. I'm skeptical they will ever make one for the gasser or crew cab. I am having a hard time finding the tank I want. I found a 25 gallon DOT approved gas caddy on Northern Tool today. Roghneck Poly Gas Caddy with a manual pump. I may lean towards this option as I can take it out and it's not hard lined. What's a little manual cranking I guess. Tank looks good with vented cap, pneumatic wheels and lays flat.

Do you have a link to this. I've been looking for a tank for ages. My reason differ a bit and would likely remove due to payload when towing.

 

I live in Canada where gas just hit 1.45 per liter. I can get it from New York State for a little over a dollar a liter. I would probably just find a pump to fill up my truck and wife's car from this tank and only go once per month instead of once per week.

Sorry for the late reply, we were actually away camping. The best I found for the money/my needs was a RDS tanks at Northern tool.

10 years ago, oversize replacement gasoline tanks were available. Today, it seems like only diesel tanks are available. Anyone know for sure what is driving this?

 

I suspect it's a combination of liability and some kind of vehicle (environmental?) laws.

I was curious about that verify thing myself...probably some odd thing like liability or environmental stuff. I guess my old gas can in the bed will just have to do.

Yep I looked at Titan for the OEM tanks, Diesel only. I would actually pay their $$$$$ for the convienence of the bigger OEM tank.

I use to use diesel fuel tanks for gas never had a problem, some states do have laws on limits just stay under if you travel there. I mounted a switch in the cab like they did in the old days, manual turning. When I switch to the big tank it would run off it and fill the truck tank by return line. Once the truck tank was full switch back to the truck tank. I did that mostly with diesels, but did do some gas rigs.
