Got my unit installed today.  Tommy Likey!  :D

Here's a rundown:

Pioneer DEH-P77DH Head Unit - $215.00 (incl S&H) from Etronics.com.  Ordered Saturday morning, recieved Wednesday.  (The price when I bought it Saturday was $199, now it's $209)

GM wire harness -  $5.00 from Crutchfield.

GM mounting kit - $8.00 from Crutchfield.  Ordered both Saturday morning, recieved Tuesday.

GM antenna adapter - $5.00 from Crutchfield.  I already had one, so I didn't have to actually order one.

Cowboy,

I just took the trim off that goes around the gauges and painted it silver.  You have remove the clear lens from the trim, then glue it back on after it's painted.

Nice pics...

So I guess the Crutchfield plastic clip/brackets attach directly to the head unit? What size screws are used to attach the brackets to the head unit? Did the holes on the head unit line up with the bracket holes?

Thanks...

Crap, I forgot I told you that I'd let you know about that.

The head unit comes with a bag of nuts/bolts, etc.  I'm not sure what you call it, but it's a bolt that is attached to a little clip-looking thing.  You snap one in the slots on each side of the head unit, the Crutchfield mounting kit had a couple plastic tabs that slide into slots near the front of the head unit.  You then lay them down flat and the hole in the mounting kit will go over the bolt/clip-looking thing.  Use a nut that is supplied with the head unit to attach the back part of the mounting kit.

The wiring harness from Crutchfield is color matched with the harness that comes with the head unit.  Just need to solder/crimp the correct colors together.  I soldered and then put some heat shrink over the solder.  There was a couple wires that I didn't use.  Power antenna and cell phone mute, I think.  I just capped them off with some heat shrink.

I also didn't hook up all the alarm, door lock, security features either.  i may sometime down the road though.

Hope this helps.  :flag:

I have the same unit!  I'm extremely happy with this, and the ease of install makes it a great idea for those wanting a better deck but not wanting that extra space that is left by the smaller din sized head units.

I took it one further, and swapped out all the speakers.  I replaced my tweaters with some Infinity q's and got some Kicker Mid Bass drivers for the 6 1/2's in the front doors, and the infinity plates for the back pillars (I have a reg cab.)  I then wired the mid subs up to a RF 150watt amp.  I Then turned on the FIE (Front Image Enhancement) and bam!  Instant crossover.  Sounds very crisp and clean!

Hey!  That looks familiar!! Sorry I never got pics of mine up way back when you were asking about this HU.  I've been very happy with it, and for the money, there is absolutely nothing that comes close.  Look how many HU's change styles and what not almost every year, and the deh-77 has remained unchanged for what, 4 years now?

Looks good!  :thumb:

Thanks Henry.  No, it's not XM.  Your's looks pretty nifty.  :thumb:

No, it's not XM.

Yes it is.  I spoke to Crutchfield as I'm thinking of getting the same unit.  The unit will accept an XM satellite through the IPBus using the Pioneer GEX-P900XM tuner ($119) and the correct cable.  If you have a CD Changer,  you can then plug the changer into the XM unit in a daisy chain.  You can control the XM unit but you may not get all of the display - my guess is it won't scroll text.

FYI :chevy:

Let me re-phrase.  The head unit alone is not XM.

I had this unit in my old dodge and I am considering putting it in my brand new Avalanche, Yes it does accept XM, and yes it doesnot scroll the text, but the sound is a lot better then if you had an RF adapter.
