Fuel door install

Today I installed the chrome oem fuel door on my truck. I went by the directions word for word. They tell you to use 1/4 drill bit to drill out the 2 rivets on the left side of original door. I lined them up and everything to make sure I would come out the back so rivet would just pop out. Well they didn't. It was like they were welded on the front and back. I ended up using a small interior panel remover that has a prong on end to pop them out. Had to be careful but did have to use a little force. Just wanted you guys to know this was a tough job. If I knew what I know now I would've left the original fuel door.

Thanks, getting the AMI locking billet door next week... I did this on my TBSS and I had to work the rivets a bit to get them to break free. Hopefully it's just paint and not an actual weld.

No welding on mine today. Did touch up a little paint. Nothing too major. After I started drilling out rivets I got a little nervous cause they would never come loose. Finally worked with it taking my time not to damage anything and got them out. It was about a 3 hour job from start to finish for me. Never again. I'll pay a pro to do it. Lol

The Chevy garage wants $42.50 (labor only) plus tax to install the (OEM) chrome fuel cover. Since it is hard to install, I might let them do it after reviewing this topic. This way it would be covered for the remaining time on my warranty and they would be responsible for the scratches etc. I agree this might be more trouble than what I want to handle. Thanks for the update.

Yes take it to dealer for that price. They quoted me $150 to install. I thought it was too high. But it is a job so I thought somebody would like to know before attempting it.

I just installed it to add the final touch of oem accessories. If I knew what I know now I would've left the factory one. I do like the looks of it on a black truck
