No. They also balanced my drive shaft. :-)

So what exactly did they do to help with the booming and buffeting sounds?

 

Nothing that I am aware of. They have been focused on the vibration issues.

I didn't observe the repair but here is what they said they did.

 

They initially attached the first bow behind the sunroof. There was a small improvement.

They then reattached all roof bows and as they described used extra material whatever that means. The dealer decided on their own to add Dynamat. Keep in mind they drove a few vehicles including mine without the headliner and observed the issue first hand so I suspect they had a good handle on what they needed to do. They got permission from GM to add Dynamat.

They ordered a new headliner because they said the original was getting beaten up and they wanted it to be pristine.

 

The end result is the truck is great. I just drove 1100 miles this past week between San Diego and LA towing a 4000lb generator half of the time and am nothing but impressed with this truck.

I am in San Diego, I went Quality Chevrolet in Escondido. They did a great job and I would recommend them. The gentleman I spoke with is Dave.

Hey guys. I've got a brand new 2016 Tahoe LT with the same buffeting sound. I'm so sorry I bought it now. It makes me sick to think of the money I spent on the car. I'll take it back to the dealer this week and hope I can work a buy-back.

I would love to give them a chance to fix it. In fact, I'm sure the dealer will not buy it back before giving it a thorough run through. However, in over 1,400 posts to this thread, I can't find a "silver bullet" that is causing this problem. I've read everything from tires, to driveshafts, to windows, to roof bows. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like the dealerships are shooting in the dark. This is not only an unfortunate problem for owners, but I'm sure it's costing the dealerships a fortune to keep working on a problem that appears to be a fundamental design flaw.

 

Do you have any advice when it comes to my first interaction with the dealership? Thanks.

I do. Print my posts where I describe what was done to my truck. Have them drive your truck with the headliner removed so they can see the buffeting in action. Print up the July TSB and show it to them.

Ok. I'll do that. It sounds like there is at least one other user that has had success with your procedure. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the info and advice.

regular window gasket seal tape on top of the oem seal should create a tighter seal(jus for troubleshooting purposes)

Dear CI, I feel that the glass should be close and tight to the window frame. Seal tape would still put the glass away from the frame a bit as you are moving the glass away from "home base" My glass is very tight and close to the "frame". Took my wife to the grocery store today. Drove up to 85 mph on the back roads and still no problem. The only "Boom " I heard was the XM station that plays R & B. I love the Stereo in this car. So far , I love this car. It drives like........ A Limo. I also have my fingers crossed. Good luck to you and hope you can resolve your issue. With best regards, Booty

Actually, we bought the truck in Buelton, CA, we had the buffeting issue serviced in Escondido closer to home in RB.

Update....

 

Dealer installed 2 new tires and road force balanced them. Put them on the rear. Installed the suspension update per TSB - new struts up front and shocks in back. Plus, update chassis module program.

 

Result - no improvement to the booming/buffeting/drone. No noticeable improvement to the rise harshness/noise. But, noticeable degradation to the roof and pitch control. The vehicle wallows about like a '72 Caddy with no shocks at all. Terrible ride now. Completely lost the responsive ride of the Denali package without improving any of the issues in the first place. Big disappointment.

 

My recommendation....avoid the suspension update. And tires changes are a waste of everyone's time!

So you didn't do the roof tsb?

Yes, that was done back in the spring. C/w Dynamat. No improvement.

 

Did they reinforce all roof bows?

    • same here , i have a 2020 first gen and the cost to repair these engines far excedes replacement
    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate. 
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here. 
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
