What is the biggest tire option I have?

Hey guys,

First post here. Been on TBSSsowners for a long time and still have the TBSS. Just picked up a 14' 6.2 CCSB LTZ Z-71 summit white Silverado. My rough country 2.5 level just arrived today. I have been browsing though the level kit sticky and can't really find a solid answer to what the largest size tire is that I can fit on the stock 18s. I'm set on BFG A/T KO. Had them before on my Colorado and loved them. I'd like to order a set here in the next couple hours so I can have them tonight. I'm ok with trimming as long as I can do it and have no rubbing. Thanks guys I appreciate the input!

I also have a 2.5" level, and I'm told I can go with 33's if they're no wider than 11.5" to avoid any rubbing. Smaller than 33's and you don't have to worry about width, and if you do 12.5" 33's, I'm told there's mild rubbing, but nothing bad. Personally, I'm going to be avoiding any rubbing, regardless of what size tire I eventually opt for.

This is the thread I've been waiting for. I too want to keep my stock 18" wheels.

It is my understanding a member here successfully fit 305/60r18 WITHOUT a leveling kit and had no rubbing, but I can't find the thread again.

I would really like to hear from someone that has a similar truck/level kit/tire combo that I'm looking at...

Ok, well the place I had my kit installed told me this. All they do is truck lifts and other truck modifications (mostly lifts), and I've been going to them for stuff on my new trucks for over ten years now. Take it for what you want, but I trust them, and you asked the question. If you don't believe it, go talk to someone local to you that does this stuff for a living and see what they say. Seems like most of the people on here either level their trucks and leave it alone, or lift it high enough to go with 34+ inch tires.

That'd be me. I used the stock wheels and tires to make my determination of what would fit. I simply started the truck and turned the wheels to the stop and held it by looping the seatbelt thru the steering wheel while I measured clearances. I came up with the 305/60-18. If you change wheel offset or width, all bets are off.

I put these tires on and drove for weeks with the stock height and never had rubbing.

What tires did you go with? I'm trying to figure out what I want to put on my truck. I've always gone with BFG All Terrain TA/KO, but I kind of feel like changing it up this time around.

I had a couple sets of Toyo Open Country AT tires on my last 2008 truck. I thought I wanted something a bit more aggressive this time around. I found the Cooper ST Maxx in 305/60-18 Load Range E. It's also marked 33x12.50-18, but it's really only 32.6 x 12.1 . I put them on the stock All Terrain chrome wheels.

Those look good. I'll have to check them out in person.

You guys both have GMC, but I've got Chevy. Given that the body curves are pretty much the only differences, do you think the clearance in the wheel well would be different between the two?

My recommendation is to do what I did to measure what your current clearances are with the tires you currently have. Then calculate how much wider/taller you can go without rubbing. I did this by turning the steering wheel to the lock with the engine running and holding it there. Do it both ways

Will do. Thanks.

They are close to stock width.

For the guy asking for pics I have put my truck on here before but what do you want to see?

Hey, that was me. Nothing specific, just how they look. I didn't realize you could fit 34's with just a level. What tire did you go with?
