Tailgate lock

I have a 2008 pickup, the tailgate lock will not work. Is this a common problem. How do I fix this?

There should be screws on the back of the tailgate. Should allow you to remove the handle and see if there is an issue with the locking mechanism.

You could just get the OEM Tailgate lock package for under $50 it gives you a new bezel, handle and codeable lock. About 20 minutes to install yourself. They are available from the GM accessories catalog. It did two sets last Saturday in about a half hour. One on a 2010 and the other on a 2012 HD.
