Gas gauge problem

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 Gmc Sierra 1500 if I fill the gas tank with about a quarter tank the gauge stays on a quarter tank takes about a day or 2 for it to go to the full mark, once I start using gas it bounces around one day it will say 1/2 a tank next day it comes down a little, following day it goes back up to 3/4 of a tank. A friend told me I could possibly have air in the tank and to shake the truck while I was filling the tank, that did not work. Any ideas?

Im guessing your fuel level sensor has issues. Only way to verify is to check the truck wiring and cluster with a signal generator. If you dont have access to one, time to take it to the shop.

had same problem on my 2001. knew it was the fuel sensor in the tank so killed 2 birds with one stone, new pump with sensor.

There have been cases where sulfur deposit on the sending units from the gas that has affected the fuel gauges. Some times using the product Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner has corrected the problem.
