Dual exhaust exits out sides.....

I have searched through old postings but have not been able find any good pictures of a 1999+ truck with dual exhaust out both sides behind the wheel wells. I want to see how individuals have routed their duals. Also, I am still debating the never-ending question of what type muffler / exhaust system to go with. I want something louder than stock but not too loud on hte interior. Right now, I am considering a Flowmaster 40 Delta Series muffler 3" in and dual 2.5" out set up to exit behind the wheel wells. I also want to find a good looking stainless tip to use on both sides. Summit sells some under their own brand name which are stainless and slightly angle cut. I think this would look good but would really like to see it before I order them.

Sorry this was so long, this is the first mod on my 2003 except for the sprayed in bedliner which will be done Friday morning

Well stephen let me give you some friendly advice.......

If you want something not too lound on the inside I would step away from the flowmaster 40 series. Those mufflers are very lound and inside have some serious resonation. Go to a 50 series or if your realy paranoide about inside noise go with the 70 series.

Also give gibson a good look, they make some great exhaust systems and they are all mandrel bent tubes apoosed to just slapping on a muffler and going with "SOME MUFFLER" shop bending the tubes.. IMHO.

I also really like the side exits as apposed to the duals out the A$$.......

I am in the same situation. I know what the pipes will look like on the truck coming out behind each rear tire. I just need info on the muffler, I don't want a lot of interior noise either, but I want a good rumble on start-up and acceleration.

I am also looking for some very nice rolled edge tips for my truck, but really haven't found any yet. I have seen the 70 series from flowmaster, I was just wondering if anyone had installed it on their truck????

I have a 70 series flowmaster kit, pipes exit behind the rear tires. I like it alot, it still has that flowmaster grumble at start up and acceleration. Without be loud in the cab going freeway speeds. It opens up real nice at wot.

I also have the 70 series flowmaster on my 5.3 Sierra. It is not loud at all, can barely hear it at idle. But gives somewhat of a growl during acceleration and star-up (no resonance at highway speeds). If you want something just a tad louder than stock, the 70 series is what youll want. Check out flowmasters website, they have sound clips of all the mufflers they carry. Hopefully this helps. I think on the soundclips though the microphone was right at the tips of the exhaust becasue my 70 series is not as loud as the sound clip.

I put a Borla system on. It has the side exits behind the rear wheels. I had a Gibson system on, but it was nothing but a drone on the highway and did not fit as nicely as the Borla system. If you go to Borla's web site (http://www.borla.com), I think you'll be able to find some images there. I know they used to have a new body style Chevy with the system I have.

First off, thanks for all the replies and I'm glad to see that I am not the only one in this dilemma. Keep the replies coming, every bit of insight or things others would change helps. Anyone with pictures of their setups?

Chevy2000... these are the tips I want to try:

Summit Tips

Cowboy02... the 40 is loud but I know that the Delta series is "supposed" to have less drone. I don't know if I want to try it and it be too loud decisions...decisions ??? . I have a shop that can mandrel bend the exhaust... I would not settle for "crimped" style bending.

dsmazz... how loud is the Borla? I want something that gives some deep growl.

IDGBZ71.. any pictures oif your setup?

Don't you hate it when you ask questions and after all is said and done you still don't know what you will be happy with? I have more options now, guess I'll have to do some looking around.

And thanks guys for all of your help, from what everyone said about their 70 series flowmaster, it has a nice sound at start-up and acceleration, but not too loud in the cab, which is what I want.

My next question for everyone is, how much did you pay for your 70 series, and where did you purchase it at, (i.e. online, or local stores) and what it the Flowmaster part # for the 70 series for my 2000 Z71 w/5.3L. I believe that the factory exhaust goes into the muffler with a 3" and exits with a 2-3/4", but I could be wrong.

I am throwing around the idea of a 50-series delta flowmaster... basically from what cowboy02 had to say about the 40 series. I think i will give this a try if I don't find a catback system that exits both sides... the borla site does not give any part which exits out both sides. The search goes on. Like chevy2000 said... keep the suggestions coming. The quietness of my truck is really getting to me

Sorry curly don't have any pictures of the exhaust. I to also looked at the borla which I liked alot on my other vehicle. But it was only offered single exhaust exit on passenger side but could get it with dual tips. I did order my flowmaster from summit racing.

What did you guys pay for your 70 series flowmaster??? I am just curious, because I am looking at ordering one for my truck.

Did you guys order the one witht the 3" inlet and 2 2-1/4" or 2 2-1/2" outlets? Just was wondering what other people had on their truck.

Also, what kinda tips are you guys using, and if you did happend to purchase the tips or the muffler on the net, what site did you use???

You might want to look at a magnaflow muffler also... Just another option for ya, I've heard good things about it and it was also in a few CHEVY mags........

Hey guys, I just happen to have a little free time this afternoon, and I was surfing the net looking at Mufflers.

Jegs and Summit have a pretty good deal on the 70 series FM, but I got to looking around, and I found the part number for the Dynomax Stainless steel muffler. I didn't know if anyone had this on their truck, or had any comments or opinons on the Dynomax brand.

Also, any comments out there on the Magnaflow brand, I haven't found a good price on this muffler, but would like some input on it.
