Weird squeak!

1st - New to the forum, great site!  Glad I found it!

2nd - I have a weird squeak (that's the best I can describe it) that happens when I launch from a dead stop or stop abrumply and the truck settles back.  The squeak last 1/2 a second or less.  If I start slowly or stop slowly, no squeak. It sounds like it is coming from between the bed and the cabin.  I don't know what to oil or grease to stop the squeak.  Any suggestions helpful.  Thanks in advance...

I think I heard of that I rode in a 93 silverado that did the same thing. The sound is more like a chirp coming from between the bed and cab. I don't know what the sound was but I don't think it was anything mechanical because the tranny never slipped probably just cosmetic.  It would be difficult to locate unless something under the body has worked or broken loose.  it shouldn't be a problem but very annoying though.

Sounds to me like you have the yoke noise from your driveshaft.  One way that I figured out the problem was putting my truck in 4wd just to take off....the noise went away because 50% of the power was now going up front..therefore taking away stress from the yoke.  Not sure if this is a "proper" troubleshooting technique...    But it worked for me....LOL.  Once the dealer installed the nickle plated yoke, the problem has not come back (over 18,000 miles since replacement)

I thought the 2002 did not suffer from this problem...anyone?

I have the exact same sound & symptom in my '00. I haven't tracked it down for sure, but it sounds to me like a loose or worn rubber mount for the transfer case.

If you pay close attention to my squeak, it seems to be coming from right under the driver's seat, where the transfer case is found.

There is known problem with the 'clunk' in the driveshaft that my service advisor says they have fought on most 4x4 Silverados since '99, but I don't think it's the same thing.

Mine was coming from the springs.  Theplastic isolation inserts came out.  These are the inserts that go in between the individual springs to avoid metal-to-metal spring contact which results in a squeak.  I jacked mine up and installed new ones and smeared grease in between the springs.

Many thanks for the replies.  The squeak is not too bad, it is just annoying!  I'll try the spring remedy first.  Thanks!

Not sure what year truck you have, but my 2002 had the exact same squeak.  It was the driveshaft slip-yoke.  There is a TSB out for the NBS trucks and at first, they greased them, but apparently that didn't work so now they replace them w/ a nickel plated slip-yoke.  Hope this helps.

only 4x4s have the slip-yoke, right?  I have a 2wd Yukon and have a squeak like that that seems to be coming from under the driver's seat or up near front driver quarter of engine compartment.  It happens when I stop suddenly, and even sometimes when I get out of the truck.  I can grab a hold of the tow hooks in front and bounce the truck up and down and it makes the squeaking noise.

So, I was just wondering if the slip-yoke is only on 4x4s.
