TPMS accuracy

How accurate is the TPMS? I got a warning light for a rear tire, @ 30psi. Checked the pressure with my hand stick and I saw 36psi. I don't know how accurate the stick is...anyone have a digital gauge to check their sensor accuracy? FYI, just bought the truck 400mi ago. Dealer filled up the rears to 32 when the jamb clearly says 38psi recommended.

Mine are within 1psi with my digital gauge..

Mine is off by 4 psi compared to my regular pressure gauge.

I would try a good quality digital gauge and see if that is more accurate.. I bought mine for like 8.99 at some parts store..

It's off by 2-4 psi on my truck. Digital gauges are cheap. Keep one in every car, bike, and ATV.

Just curious. why does everyone think that digital gauges are more accurate than analog gauges. Most are cheap Chinese units. No problem with high quality (expansive) digital units. But most people don't have them. Digital does not necessarily equal accuracy.

True. But digital is not mechanical and mechanical things are prone to failure. So if the digital is setup right in the first place then you are more likely to have an accurate gauge reading..

I also think its easier to read a digital one then mechanical gages.

 

I think mechanical gages are better and more accurate even in the lower priced ones but many times the average person cant read them correctly because they cant count the dashes between the every 5 or 10 pounds stamped on number marks.

 

along with cheap digitals just being cheap and not that accurate, they don't read correctly if batteries are weak

TPMS isn't calibrated, it just uses a "nominal" pressure sensor voltage/resistance per psi. I'd guess +/- 10% at best, since the only purpose is to warn you when you get low.
