Savage AccuStock Experience

Anybody have any experience with Savage's models with the Accustock? I was thinking of the 116 Left Handed weather warrior in 270 (or the 16 in a 243). Right now I have a Remington 700 .270. I shoot left handed and I'm sick of using a right hand gun. I've been reading that the modern Savages are really good right out of the box, particularly their accutrigger. I'm no gun smith, just like being able to take a deer down at 150 yds. I'm sick of Remington with their crap xmark trigger. I don't want to buy another gun just to have to put an aftermarket trigger in.

So anybody have any experience with an "accustock" rifle from Savage?

The accu-stock bedding blocks stock is marketing hype. Nothing special about it. I have two of them and all of my Remington 700's are better shooting rifles with goid light factory triggers.

Not sure what your issue is with the Remington trigger but all of my newer models are great. I will say that my older 760 pumps triggers are terrible, worse than a shotgun!

IMO, you can do better in that price range. The best shooting hunting rifle I own is a Weatherby Vanguard series 2 in 30-06. It is a $500 rifle and shoots groups the same as my more expensive fancy hunting rifles. Sub MOA groups at 100yds for $500 is a great deal. Very accurate and it has a fantastic factory trigger. If you haven't done so, check them out.

Mine does not have it, it's this one:

Great gun nonetheless, the trigger is sweet. I liked the setting out of the box. Everyone who I've let play with it loved it. I have read people shoot 1/2moa with the stock Nikon. I like the Nikon, good scope IMO. Don't know much about the Accustock but mine does fine without it. It's very accurate. If I can hit a pigeon you should be able to hit a deer, lol. I have a .30-06.

When I got mine it was well under $500 with the scope. Very good value, the best I think. The only Rem guns I'm a fan of are their pump shotguns. Never been impressed with their rifles. Especially since they had another recall last year, which included very recent guns.

Yeah, the recall was indeed a PIA. Got my Rem 700 back with a 6.5 pound trigger pull. Out of this world. Good to know you like that Savage. I'm just looking for a beater gun. I'll look into that Weatherby.

I would look and see what you can find used if you want a "beater". I considered spray painting the stock, but decided the gun was too nice, only a few boxes through it. I think I'm going to wrap it up with some camo stretch tape. Easy to take off to clean and should help to break up the black outline.
