6" OE running board install question

Hey Yall, I tried to find this in another thread, but if it exists I can't seem to locate it.

I bought 6" running boards off a guy down the road. They came with 4 clips and 16 bolts. So I assume they were all in use in his truck.

To install them, you have 4 bolts that go vertical under the cab, 2 of which use the clips because they are not threaded (per side.) Then you have 4 horizontal bolts that go into the cab.

On my truck, the rear 2 horizontal bolt holes have no threading in them and I see no way to get threading in them.

This bracket seems designed for 2 purposes.. to add extra support by pushing outward on the cab when someone steps on the running board, and to provide exrta support for the load with the horizontal bolt. Without the bolt, I', worried about the boards falling off.

Has anyone observed this? Am I missing a part or something? Obviously the previous owner had threads in these holes. His truck was an apporpriatley trimmed truck for these. Mine is just an LT and was probably never intended to have these.

I can try to get pics of that will help, but anyone who has installed these probably knows the process. It's fairly straight forward other than these holes. I have 4 extra bolts and that really makes me nervous. I don't want a passenger breaking their leg if the running board gives way when they're climbing in.

Thanks!

You are correct, there would be more threaded clips to go into the vertical bolt holes. All trucks are set up that way for some reason. Even my SLT Sierra with all the bells and whistles didn't have all 4 vertical and horizontal bolt locations threaded. Only half did just like your truck.

How would you install a threaded clip in that location though? Does anyone have a pic of this? Its a round hole in the side of the inside of the body. I can probably get some from the dealer or even rig something up (dunno how I'd rig something up tho..)

I'll try to crawl under in a bit if I get the chance and see. I don't remember off hand. Pulled my steps off a month and a half ago and installed amp steps not long after so I don't remember.

ACtually, thanks to THIS video:

I figured it out. There should have been 8 clips and there were only 4. So I didn't get all the parts from this guy.

that's fine. I know what to do. I'm gonna take the spare bolts to depot and I'm gonna get some nuts and washers, then I'll take the clips off the bottom, put them in the horizontal mounts, and use nuts and lock washers on the back on each side.
