Low oil pressure alarm

Recommended Posts

friend of mine just had his low oil pressure alarm come on. He was driving the truck and the light just came on and the oil pressure went to zero. He pulled to a stop and shut the engine off. He checked the dipstick and the oil level is full. A few minutes later he started the truck and continued to work without any alarm or issues. Probabilities?

It is and 09 chevy 1500 4x4. the only extras he has on it...air horn and hydraulic rear end for towing. Not sure what that menas but thats what he said. He has never used it. It was put on by the previous owner. 2+ months ago he changed the battery (same type and size) and recently had the radio and the horn fuzes blow. Needless to say, with the fuze issues and now the oil pressure issue he is spooked. The truck has 60,000ish miles on it. No CEL at this time and the truck run normal according to him.

Feed me some info please. Thanks

The oil level warning switch is on the side of the oil pan if I recall correctly. I'd crawl up under the truck and see if you can find it and look at the connector. He may be having an issue with the connections (corroded or gunked up with stuff). As to the blown fuses...does it continue to blow or just a one time thing?

I have no clue what a "hydraulic rear end" is either. Never heard of it.

+1 on the OPS. Although there's no need to remove the intake manifold, my dad and I replaced it on his 4.8 Silverado without removing a single thing, with the possible exception being the plastic engine shroud.

You will just need to be very patient and careful since there's literally zero visibility.

Count on an hour or less, depending on how lucky you are!
