reverse camera

Hi there, I recently upgraded to the 8" my link system and in the process had the company pre-program my system for the reverse camera (so every time i put the truck in reverse it goes to the backup camera screen with the lines on it, but at this point obviously no picture because i don't have a camera installed) therefore i was wondering what are my best options (preferably most cost effective options) for adding the camera? Can i order a factory one from the dealership? is there a good priced kit out there for just the camera and wiring i need to plug it into my factory head unit?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Question: do the lines curve as you turn the wheel?

I had the dealership add a camera as a condition of purchase to my truck, but since I have the tinyscreen they replaced my rearview with an auto dim that has the screen in that. It works fine for me, and has lines, but the lines don't care about wheel position.

I think, and don't quote me on this cos I know nothing about the connectors, that at this point its just a matter of adding the camera for you. You'll need to either drill your tailgate handle or get a handle that is predrilled with the GM camera and harness for inside the tailgate. If you open your tailgate you'll see the hole in the center of the bed where the camera runs in. I can take a look to make sure, but what I recall seeing when I installed my towing package is that my camera plugs right into the rear distribution block at the back of the truck and runs into the factory harness from there. So chances are, it may be that simple for you.

yes, the lines do curve when i turn the wheel (they show up but since there is no camera present they just display on a grey screen when in reverse)

see I've looked at camera source however they only seem to offer a kit with a rear view mirror option. none that just comes with the camera/bezel and connection cables for the factory unit. Im curious if i can just order the camera/bezel from the dealership and if it'll be plug and play?

The link I gave you is for a kit that connects the tailgate camera/bezel to universal monitors. They have another that is a complete kit including a mirror when you do not have a monitor. My point was that you could contact them and let them know that you have the OEM monitor and see what they have that would work.

Also, since you have the OEM monitor and it is programmed, you could talk to the dealer parts guy and order the camera/bezel/harness. With what you have, I think the dealer parts guy would be the best source. He could also look at your RPO code to see if there are any other cables needed. In previous years, GM provided some of the harnesses even if the option was not factory installed and they would program options. For 2014, they don't always include the harnesses if the RPO for an option is not included. My point here is, just make sure and don't assume.

See now I'm a little jealous lol. I like mine in the rearview, but I'm planning to go to an 8" screen eventually. I figured the lines wouldn't work on my truck.

Did you have IO3/4/5 in your rpo codes? My truck has IO4.
