Squeaking gas pedal

I looked for this but wasn't able to turn up anything in a search. My truck developed a small annoyance last week and I had it in to the dealer for a fix. Thought I'd share what they found in case I am not alone.

My drive home involves a twisting hilly two-lane with lots of bumps. Usually the truck is super quiet, but last week I suddenly started hearing a very annoying squeak. I first thought I was experiencing the seat issue that is commonly talked about, But with my homemade fix

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/154219-seat-movement-issues/page-19

I performed after reading this thread I was glad to learn it wasn't the seat. After a few minutes it was obvious it was the gas pedal. I had a creaking metal on metal sound like a rusty screen door. I checked the bracket that holds the pedal assembly and all was tight, but you could move it with your hand and easily get the same annoying squeak.

Had the truck into dealer and with a call to GM (Seems GM had a lot of complaints about this-just haven't read about it on here) they were able to "engineer" a fix. I was told it involved removing the pedal bracket assembly and using double sided tape to stop the squeak. In short it seems to have worked.

Thought I'd put this out there in case someone else had the problem, was out of warranty or didn't have time to get to the dealer.

Well, the "fix" sounds kind of odd but glad you were able to get something done so quickly. This is the first I've heard of this particular problem.

It was a new one on me too, but the dealer told me that GM Techline said they had had lots of complaints... oh well. Anyway the bracket is attached at the bottom and on the left side, but the top right of the bracket can flex. At least that's what it looked like to me. No way to tighten the top right portion of the bracket, so I guess the double sided tapes keeps the flexing from making any noise. To their credit what the dealer did made it as quiet as new, so GM's "fix" does seem to do the job. If the repair doesn't hold I'll let it be known. Hope no one else runs into this little issue.

BTW my truck was a fairly early production unit 8/2013, so maybe GM has this fixed on newer units.

I noticed the same on mine last week. When I tap the pedal it makes a squeaking noise. Forgot to mention in when I was in at the dealer last week. I use cruise control most of the time so I guess I just hadn't noticed it before

Mine did that, but it was to the point where it squeaked whenever I hit a bump or rough place in the road.

I took a look to see if I could determine exactly what the dealer did, but there wasn't anything visible. Regardless it is nice without the squeak.

Occasionally my brake pedal would squeak when pressed. I wonder if something similar would work for that.

They said they could not hear anything but are going to replace the pedal anyway. I feel like that's the standard dealership line lol. I forgot to show them the video but will next time when the pedal actually gets replaced

I'm going to necro the heck out of this old thread since it was the first and most relevant to pop up on my search.

This I believe is the same exact sound that has been driving me banana's for the past week.  Sounds kind of like the trigger sound from the old 70's/80's era AFX slotcar toys.

Any better description of the solution? Trying to avoid a trip to the dealer if I can just to save my time.

For what it is worth, my truck is a 18 with a whopping 2900 miles.

I had the same issue....had the bracket replaced....was better for awhile then came back.  When it was in there last week they said the bolts had loosened and they retightened it.  Sounds like a common and annoying problem.

I no longer own the 14 in my original post, but I had a issue with the current Denali.  When it happened I just did the often discussed board remedy of sheming a piece of wood (I think I used a broken paint stick) into the assembly.  It worked.  If you aren't sure what I'm talking about just do a forum search.  Things like this shouldn't happen, but in the grand scheme of things its a small problem compared to some of the truck issues you see discussed here and on other brand's boards. Happy motoring!

Thanks, i see the amount of play between the bracket and the fire wall, I initially assumed it was just stupid thin imported Chinese steel. I also saw the paint stirrer trick on one of my searches. I'll give it a try to see if it repairs the issue.

Not sure if is it build quality or desire to have a lighter weight vehicle to squeeze out every last inch of fuel economy but, in the 7 months and 3K miles I've had this truck, it has more squeaks and thudding sounds than my 98 GMC ever did in 20 years of owning that truck.

Again, Thanks Guys. I'll report back for those who care.
