PowerBoard NX vs POWERSTEP P&P

If anyone with experience can list the pros and cons of each as well as pictures that would be helpful..

 

Trying to decide between these 2 before the coupons go away on them.

 

Right now the Amp Research plug and play kit is $1000.54 and the Bestop Powerboard NX is going $1096.99

 

I feel like the Bestop's might have the advantage being wireless and all. Not having to run wires through your cab and lift up floor panels.

Warranty is longer on the AMP PowerStep and with the P&P, the install time has been cut down from the complete wired version. When I looked at the Bestop steps, the main issue for me was the warranty. My installer told me that they used to carry both products, but had to stop the Bestop due to the amount of warranty claims on them.

I installed the AMP power steps two weeks ago. The concern you raised about wiring is no big deal. The door threshold just pops out and you have to drill one very small hole for two wires to run through. Very easy and quick with plug and play. This part of the install was less than 10 minutes. Key is the right drill bit for the grommet. It was one size up from 1/4".

Bestop Powerboard 3 yr 36k warranty

 

Really that's the most important difference right there. I cannot comment on the 2014+ models, but I have a set on my 2011 and they are flawless, highly recommend their product.

Did you buy the optional Pass through Harness or is it not really needed ?

The plug and play is awesome. I can't compare using bare wires and finding the right ones.....I know I wouldn't want to do it.

I installed the Pass Thru Harness so that the dealer service guy can update software or state inspector can plug in their inspection gear into the ODB2 port without unplugging the P&P connector. Otherwise dealer service or state inspector has to unplug the P&P connector to use the ODB2 port. It is not "needed", but I preferred to install it for these reasons. Having said that, I installed the Pass Thru Harness 6 months after the PowerSteps were installed.
