Well the old gal got some loving today. New radiator, upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat, oil change, and all new coolant. Also threw in some Lucas injector cleaner.

Holy cow that is nasty! lol

But kudos on all of that maintenance. It looks like we're using the same oil too.

Going to clean the throttle body this evening since I noticed it was so gummed it that it wasnt closing correctly. Anyone care to chime in about whether or not it's safe to actuate it and clean it with it on the truck? Haven't done it on the newer nbs...

Didn't figure it would, but felt it safer to ask lol. Was hoping that would finally solve my rough idle and random misfire I've been trying to hunt down since I got the truck. O well, gonna try o2 sensors here soon and see if that helps. If nothing changes I'll be getting an exhaust put on next week. I've pretty well decided I want to remove the y pipe and do a di/do Flowmaster 40 dumped over the axle with 4" tips.

If you have a misfire I wouldn't spend money on exhaust. Especially a blomaster :jester:

At this point I'm convinced it's an internal issue so I'm just gonna save up and eventually put a new motor in it. Never been a big fan of flowmaster but I found a few videos on youtube of them di/do with no cats and I love it. It's actually the only muffler I've found that sounds good without cats. Hell the stock muffler sounds like you are blowing over the top of a soda bottle now without the cats.

Are you still on the original tranny? If so then add one to the near future shopping list too.

I too don't see hwhy you would get an exhaust if the engine isn't near 100%.

Yes it's still the original. Just building it the best I can with a small income. I'll keep the motor up as best as I'm capable and just get a used one dropped in if/when the time comes. She burns oil and misfires at idle but still gets roughly 21mpg hwy/ 16 city. Does great for what I need. She'll do for now.

Took the truck on a long drive for my anniversary. In 2 days time i will have put close to 500 miles on the truck by the time I get home tonight. Driving everything from flat highways to busy cities to hilly mountains. Will update with numbers tomorrow, but so far the old beast is doing great!

Truck did amazing on the trip for its age and mileage. Felt nice and strong pulling small hills but had to be down shifted to feel comfortable climbing steep grades. The ride was extremely comfortable with the new shocks (thanks again Chris) and it did great on fuel as well.

Anyway here's the numbers I gathered using the DIC and scan gauge:

Final mileage: 342,684

Miles traveled: 460.9

Total fuel used: 24.1 gallons

Avg MPG for the entire trip: 19.1

Best HWY mpg noted: 21.8

Best CITY mpg noted: 18

Avg Engine Temp: 205-210

Transmission stayed 100-110 above outside temp

The truck did throw the P0300 a few times, but as usual was not enough to even notice other than the annoying blinking light. Also threw a knock sensor code so those will be up soon as well.

All together I couldn't have been more pleased with this thing. If it keeps up and my plans come together for it the old gal may be around a long time.

Use fuel log. I love it. My mileage is low because i spend about 30 minutes idling with AC on before class every day.

Just to update the to do list also:

(This is in no particular order)

* O2 sensors

* knock sensors

*Exhaust

* Airaid Jr MIT

* new front windshield

* front end alignment

* 3" RC Spindles

* 3" rear blocks

* 33" tires

* valve cover and head gaskets

I'd also eventually like to replace the motor and transmission as well as get a new paint job, but theirs no telling when or if I'll be able to afford all of that. We shall see.

How was the drive with level and 5100's?

It was very smooth. Rode better than most vehicles I've been in.
