What noise is this ?

Yall got any idea as to what is causing this noise ?

 

 

 

I was thinking front universal joint or maybe CV axle ?

 

Truck has a 6 inch lift and 37s. Only 3k miles on lift and tires ? Premature wear maybe ?

It actually does sound similar to a CV...

I believe its a the universal joint on the front driveshaft. The one going into the transfer case. I jacked up the rear end, put truck in neutral and rotated the drive shaft and i could hear it squealing and whining. It kind of pops when driving

Shouldn't be turning if you're not in 4x4 though

It does haha. Isn't that how it can have full time 4wd? Front d/s keeps spinning but the hubs just aren't locked ?

 

Anyone have any insight on replacing u joints on front driveshaft? Easily do-able?

No. Driveshaft should only turn in auto or 4x4.

CV's spin in 2wd and hubs are unlocked. They lock in 4wd and auto. I'm hoping your lift had a differential drop. If not then your u joints are longggg gone at that type of angle.

Yup it has a diff drop. I believe it's just time for new u joints haha. Stuff is gonna break on a truck with 234k miles

It seems to be coming from that general area. I'm just gonna take it to my mechanic i reckon. Goodbye paycheck ;(

Yessir, only under power. When you put it in neutral and are still moving, the noise stops.

 

 

I had the rear jacked up and the front driveshaft out, and the noise was still persistent. This rules out CV's, no?

Front driveshaft only turns in 4x4, cvs always turn. But since you said under power I'd check u joints on the rear driveshaft.

I'm betting something rubbing in the trans, or torque convertor
